ORLANDO, Fla. – Well, the tittle says beats, but really, it was a slaughter. The New England Revolution played an excellent match in every aspect of the game. Throughout all of the 90+ minutes, they were way better than the Montreal Impact. Especially, the 2 designated players Carles Gil and Gustavo Bou were extremely dangerous every time the ball came to their feet.

The Revolution did everything right in that game. They showed a lot of intensity, they were excellent at second balls and they forced (Montreal helped them) the Impact’s players in losing a lot of balls for no reason in the midfield. The score 1-0 is even flattering for Montreal, because the Revs could have put 3 or 4 in the back of the net if it wasn’t for Clement Diop who was one of the only good players for Montreal.
Bou scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute.
Speaking about Montreal, this was a disastrous game for them. No grinta, no fight spirit, a technical quality that shames a pro football team and close to nothing created up front. Though, Henry will have some positive things to build on.
For example, the 19 years old Luis Binks was truly excellent, probably the best defender in the game. Also, the youngster Ballou Tabla who came on in the 75th minutes showed a wonderful display of his abilities. His shot in the 96th minutes could have salvage an undeserved point if it wasn’t for a great save by Turner.
Finally, Henry made critical errors in his starting lineup. He played with a weird shaped 3-4-3 where the midfielder on the right wing was sometimes Okwonkwo (who was awful at a point where he was subbed off at half-time) and sometimes Piette, a defensive midfielder who has not the qualities to play there.
New England starts this tournament with a good start, and nothing is lost for Montreal, but they need a way better performance against TFC next wednesday.
