CARSON, Calif. – Two teams with playoff hopes on the line met at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night. Uriel Antuna and LA Galaxy were coming off a 7-2 victory at home. Lassi Lappalainen and Montreal Impact were coming off an embarrassing loss at home and needed a result.

Uriel Antuna Goal Keeps LA Galaxy in Playoff Race

The Galaxy opened the scoring just after the half hour mark. Cristian Pavon got into space on the flank but had to wait for reinforcements. He found Uriel Antua at the top of the box who appeared to shoot at goal. The ball bounced off of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s hip, who gathered it at his feat and scored from point blank range.

There was a VAR review on the play, looking to see if Ibrahimovic was offside, but the goal stood.

LA continued to attack by possessing the ball and looking to find Ibrahimovic but Evan Bush was excellent on several plays in goal. Montreal tried to counter, looking for Lassi Lappalainen and Orji Okwonkwo up top.

Montreal found the equalizer in the 48th minute. Saphir Taïder timed his cross over the back line perfectly. Lappalainen got separation and got an unchallenged header that he sent over goalkeeper David Bingham to score.

Just two minutes later, the Galaxy responded with their winner. Pavon pressed Bush on the ball and won it. He chased the ball down and sent it into the box. Ibrahimovic headed the ball down to Uriel Antuna, who was able to gather and score.

The match ended 2-1.

Three Takeaways:

Brace for Impact: The Impact were fading in the Eastern Conference and this loss puts them further back in that race. They need results going forward.

Attackers keeps scoring: Uriel Antuna and Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored last game, and they scored on Saturday as well. Along with Pavon, they were dangerous all night.

Galaxy playoff hopes: With this win the Galaxy are now in position to host a home playoff game. They’re three points closer to the playoffs with an easy schedule for the remainder of the season.
