Atlanta, Georgia (May 8, 2019) — Atlanta United FC didn’t have the best start to their season. It was newsworthy, because just a few short months ago, Atlanta United hoisted the MLS Cup trophy.

However, with new head coach Frank de Boer, Atlanta United fell down to start the season. Atlanta has struggled to find consistency this season in a positive direction. However, the tide is starting to turn for the reigning MLS Cup champions.

Atlanta United FC take down Toronto FC in road to redemption

After tonight’s 2-0 victory over Toronto FC, Atlanta United have now won their last three matches. Atlanta previously picked up a victory over the Colorado Rapids and a statement victory over Sporting Kansas City.

Meanwhile, ever since their loss to the Seattle Sounders FC, Toronto FC have struggled to find consistency, too. That struggled continued on the road in the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Toronto watched as Héctor Villalba scored the opening goal in the 17th minute. Meanwhile, Atlanta wouldn’t just sit with one goal, as Julian Gressel netted the game-winning shot in the 67th minute.

Atlanta was busy on offense throughout the whole night.

Atlanta United FC took 19 shots, with five shots registering on goal. Alex Bono, in goal for Toronto, was forced to make Gonzalo “Pity” Martínez, Josef Martínez and Gressel. Meanwhile, Toronto FC failed to register a single shot on goal.

Needless to say, Brad Guzan has a simple night in goal.

What’s Next?

Atlanta will look to continue their hot-streak with a quick turn-around against Orlando City SC on Sunday. The match is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, Toronto FC has a quicker turn-around with a Saturday contest against the Philadelphia Union at 3 p.m. ET.
