Luck on the side of FC Dallas as they beat Portland Timbers 2-1

Portland Timbers

Frisco, Texas (April 13, 2019) — The Portland Timbers still can’t seem to get a result as FC Dallas grab their fourth win of the season. But that wasn’t the whole story.

Luck on the side of FC Dallas as they beat Portland Timbers 2-1

Dallas opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a lucky deflection off Deigo Chara, sending 18-year-old Jesus Ferreira in on a breakaway. Though the officials went to VAR to make sure it was a true deflection, FC Dallas was given the call and took the 1-0 lead into half time.

Dallas doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Jorge Moreira took down Pablo Aranguiz. Reto Ziegler converted the penalty. Just seven minutes later Cristhian Paredes got on the end of a Sebastian Blanco cross which cut Dallas’ lead in half.

The Portland Timbers had two solid penalty calls in the stoppage time, both of them waved away by the likes of VAR and center referee Marcos de Oliveira. The game ended 2-1 in Dallas’ favor.

Three Takeaways

  1. Dallas Youngsters are the Real Deal: The club that has been on top of producing incredible talent out of their youth system keeps on going. Jesus Ferreira and Paxton Pomykal both had stellar games and are only 18 and 19, respectively. It will be fun to watch their development over the next few seasons.
  2. Portland Timbers are cursed: Let’s face it, there is some sort of spell on the Timbers this season. Yes, they have played terribly at times. But when they have played well, they drop points for strange reasons. Dallas’ first goal was an unbelievable deflection that landed perfectly to Ferreira. They should have probably had at least two penalties during the match. None were given. Timbers fans need to figure out how to break the spell and fast.
  3. Home is where the heart is: It is hard to overstate the importance of playing at home in this league. Playing on the road is tiring and is not easy. With this win, FC Dallas remain undefeated at home. The Timbers, on the other hand, can’t wait until their home opener on June 1st.
