Washington D.C. (March 20, 2019) — In the midst of an exciting week for D.C. United, the team has just announced the signing of their 12th Homegrown Player in team history, 16-year old forward Griffin Yow.

Yow has spent the last four years with the D.C. United Academy team where he scored 41 goals in 68 games. He has also registered five U.S. Youth National Team U17 appearances, where he has contributed three goals and an assist.

A local to the DMV area, Yow played in his first professional game just this month with debutant USL Championship club Loudoun United. On Sunday, he started his first game with the team and scored the first-ever goal in club history.

Yow primarily has played striker. After Wayne Rooney and Quincy Amarikwa, Yow could be considered the third-string striker for the first team. While not expected to feature in D.C. United’s immediate plans, he will be used significantly throughout this season for Loudoun United, D.C.’s pipeline team.

Yow found some game time from the bench this preseason with D.C. United and could be set for an appearance or two in the MLS this year if injuries start to pile up for the front four.

For Loudoun United, Yow’s signing to a Homegrown contract opens up another spot for a D.C. United Academy player to join the team without counting towards the roster numbers. USL Championship teams are allowed five spots dedicated to academy players outside of the roster total.

Yow joins Antonio Bustamante and Donovan Pines — both currently playing for Loudon United on loan — as D.C. United’s 2019 Homegrown signings.
