Chester, Pa. (Feb. 12, 2019) — The U.S. Women’s National Team is continuing their preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
For a fourth year, the USWNT will host the SheBelieves Cup in the United States. The tournament began in 2016. The first three tournaments saw the United States take on Germany, France and England. However, in 2019, the opponents are changing. This year the United States will face Brazil and Japan, in addition to England.
USWNT: SheBelieves Cup roster released; Lindsey Horan injured
All four teams have qualified for this summer’s World Cup, which will be held in France.
Ellis’ roster consists of 23 players, which is the final tally a team can have for the World Cup. Lindsey Horan will not join her USWNT teammates due to a quadriceps injury.
The roster isn’t experimental, as 15 players on the roster participated in last year’s tournament. In addition, nine players on the roster will feature in the fourth-straight SheBelieves Cup. All of the 23 players listed were on the January camp roster, where the United States faced off against France and Spain.
The only player to not have an official appearance is goalkeeper Adrianna Franch.
According to U.S. Soccer, Ellis is also adding goalkeeper Jane Campbell, defenders Merritt Mathias and Emily Fox and midfielder Allie Long to the pre-tournament training camp.

The Matches and Opponents
As mentioned, the United States will compete against Brazil, Japan and England.
All three teams have long histories with the United States. However, the United States hasn’t faced off with England since last year’s tournament. The English squad will look different, as the tournament will be the debut of new coach Phil Neville. He formerly featured for Manchester United and Everton, while serving on the England Men’s National Team.
The winner of the tournament will be based off total points, with a tie breaker being goal difference.
Meanwhile, the United States will take on Japan first, at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa., near Philadelphia, on Feb. 27. The tournament runs through the beginning of March, with matches on March 2 against England and March 5 against Brazil.
The USWNT will host England in Nashville at Nissan Stadium. Meanwhile, the tournament extends further south for the final match, which will be held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida.
