Preview: Minnesota United FC-Philadelphia Union

A preview of Saturday night's matchup between Minnesota United FC and the Philadelphia Union. Can Angelo Rodriguez continue his hot form?
Minnesota United FC-Philadelphia Union

Minnesota United FC had another strong showing against a playoff team last weekend, beating New York City FC 2-1. Angelo Rodriguez arguably had his best showing as a Loon, with two goals. Miguel Ibarra also had a good showing including a pinpoint cross to assist on one of Rodriguez’s goals.

The Loons have another test against a playoff contender in the Philadelphia Union, although this matchup is away from the friendly confines of TCF Bank Stadium. Also, the Union figure to be at full strength unlike NYCFC and the Portland Timbers, who were both missing at least one key contributor.

Where: Talen Energy Stadium, Chester, Pennsylvania

Watch: Streamed on ESPN and FOX Sports North

Even without Fernando Bob and Maximiniano as the double pivot, the 4-2-3-1 had another good showing with Collen Warner and Rasmus Schuller replacing them. Bob and Maximiniano figure to return to the line-up from suspension with Collen Warner being suspended.

Jerome Thiesson and Francisco Calvo should remain at the fullback spots, as well as Michael Boxall and Brett Kallman remaining at the center-back. Could the move to fullback for Calvo be permanent?

The only question for the front-line is whether Romario Ibarra is available to start or will Rasmus Schuller take his place. Miguel Ibarra should start on the other flank and Darwin Quintero starting under Angelo Rodriguez up top.

Things to Look for:

Will Angelo Rodriguez continue his hot streak?

Angelo Rodriguez had arguably his best game as Loon with two goals against NYCFC. He has been under a lot of scrutiny due to the Minnesota fanbase associating his arrival with the departure of fan favorite Christian Ramirez. Closing out the season on a hot streak could help return some faith in the MNUFC front office after the Ramirez trade.
