Holding The High Line: Colorado Rapids MLS Wooden Spoon Odds

Podcast (October 3, 2018) – Hello Rapids Fans! This week on Holding The High Line, we’re grasping at straws and trying to not think about the MLS Wooden Spoon. Saturday in Seattle wasn’t good, we skip our usual Good Thing, Bad Thing, Big Thing on this episode and get into that game against Los Angeles FC that’s probably going to end poorly. The guys discuss where LAFC is at while still not having a No. 6 and having Laurent Ciman depart since last they played the Pids.

Then Matt handicaps the 2018 MLS Wooden Spoon race and makes sense of what the Colorado Rapids need to do to not ‘win’ that trophy. Mark your calendars for October 21st. Hopefully, you’re not scheduled to lift weights at Tobin’s house that day.

The guys finish off with Mark seeing into his 2019 crystal ball and developing a theory that 2019 shouldn’t get much hype in Rapids land.

Matt Pollard is the Managing Editor of Last Word on Soccer and an engineer by day. A Colorado Convert, he started covering the Colorado Rapids as a credentialed member of the press in 2016, though he’s watched MLS since ’96. When he’s not watching or writing about soccer, he’s being an outdoorsman (mostly skiing and hiking) in this beautiful state or trying a new beer. For some reason, he thought that starting a podcast with Mark was a good idea and he can’t figure out how to stop this madness. He also hosts Last Word SC Radio.

Mark Goodman, the artist formally known as Rapids Rabbi, moved to Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, saw Lee Nguyen dribble a ball with the silky smoothness of liquid chocolate cascading into a Bar Mitzvah fountain, and promptly fell head over heels in love with domestic soccer. When not watching MLS or coaching U8 soccer, he’s generally studying either Talmud or medieval biblical exegesis. Which explains why he watches so much MLS, probably. He writes about the Rapids for Around MLS and covers the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL for Last Word on Soccer. He also writes for American Soccer Analysis.
