STANFORD, California (Sept. 18, 2018) — Tierna Davidson has officially been ruled out of the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying tournament.

Davidson, a junior at Stanford University studying management science and engineering, picked up a left ankle injury recently. During Stanford’s match against the University of North Carolina on Sept. 9, Davidson’s injury occurred.

The timeline for Davidson’s recovery is approximately 10-12 weeks. She will miss a majority of Stanford’s season, which finishes regular-season action on Nov. 2.

Stanford is currently undefeated, with a record of 7-0-1.

Davidson has earned 12 appearances with the United States Women’s National Team, registering all starts. She will turn 20-years-old tomorrow, Sept. 19. Her first international goal came in the recent USWNT friendlies against Chile.

World Cup qualifying preliminary roster released

Davidson’s name is on the U.S. Women’s National Team preliminary roster, so that’s one choice that Jill Ellis doesn’t have to worry about making.

World Cup Qualifying takes place after the end of the NWSL season. This weekend, the final two teams will take the field at Providence Park to decide the season champion. The Portland Thorns FC will face either the North Carolina Courage or Chicago Red Stars, in a match that will be decided tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

With that in mind, Ellis will have all players across the league to her disposal. A few names on the preliminary roster list — like Danielle Colaprico and Sofia Huerta — are names that haven’t been seen in a while.

Colaprico has never made an official USWNT appearance.

Meanwhile, also on the list is McCall Zerboni. However, Zerboni is out for an undisclosed period with a left elbow injury, suffered during the USWNT’s final match against Chile. However, her teammates Lynn Williams and Jessica McDonald have found their names back on the preliminary roster.

The full roster is listed below:

Goalkeepers: Adrianna Franch, Alyssa Naeher, Jane Campbell, and Ashlyn Harris.

Defenders: Abby Dahlkemper, Becky Sauerbrunn, Casey Short, Crystal Dunn, Emily Sonnett, Hailie Mace, Jaelene Hinkle, Kelley O’Hara, Merritt Mathias, and Tierna Davidson.

Midfielders: Allie Long, Andi Sullivan, Danielle Colaprico, Julie Ertz, Lindsey Horan, McCall Zerboni, Morgan Brian, Rose Lavelle, Samantha Mewis and Savannah McCaskill.

Forwards/Strikers: Alex Morgan, Amy Rodriguez, Carli Lloyd, Christen Press, Kealia Ohai, Jessica McDonald, Lynn Williams, Mallory Pugh, Megan Rapinoe and Tobin Heath.

When is CONCACAF WCQ?

Does Trinidad & Tobago ring a bell?

For U.S. Men’s National Team fans, it does in a sour way. However, for the U.S. Women’s National Team, it’s a fond reminder of qualifying for the World Cup. Sadly, the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Team doesn’t even have the proper help from the federation to prepare for World Cup qualifiers.

Don’t believe me? Watch this video:

The USWNT will face Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Panama in Group A of the CONCACAF Championship, which begins on Oct. 4 and runs until Oct. 17. The top two teams from each group — Group B consists of Canada, Jamaica, and Costa Rica — will move on to the knockout rounds.

From then, the two teams that make the championship game will punch their ticket to the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France. The third-place team will also receive automatic qualification.

Meanwhile, the fourth-place team will enter a playoff match with the CONMEBOL playoff team. This year, Argentina is the opponent for the fourth-place CONCACAF team.
