PORTLAND, OREGON (September 8, 2018) – Portland Timbers got a necessarily win on Saturday night, defeating Colorado Rapids by the score of 2-0. Jeremy Ebobisse and Diego Valeri scored the goals as they were able to contain the Rapids and create chances for themselves.
Portland Timbers get back on track over Colorado Rapids in 2-0 win
Portland Timbers controlled the game for much of the match after the opening minutes. After the first 10 minutes with both teams feeling each other out, the Timbers established dominance, controlling the ball and creating the majority of the chances.
It took until the 45th minute when Jeremy Ebobisse scored in a rare start on a great pass from Sebastián Blanco. Portland controlled the ball in the first half, but it took a great pass and finish from two players to finally get on the scoreboard.
There were shouts for a PK for Colorado in the 65th minute when Jack McBean and Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark had a run it, but VAR determined that no PK should be given.
Portland doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Diego Valeri scored on a great pass from Sebastian Blanco on a through ball in front of goal. The Timbers controlled gameplay well enough to win the game 2-0. The match ended with that scoreline.

Timbers take care of business: At the end of the day, the better and more organized team won the game. The Timbers created more chances and took care of business when it mattered most.
Cole Bassett makes debut: Rapids homegrown Cole Bassett subbed in for Kortne Ford in the 71st minute, making his first appearance in MLS play. He didn’t do much in his 20+ minutes of play in his league debut but for a teenager, it was good just to step on the field.
Ebobisse shines: Jeremy Ebobisse was excellent in the match, giving Samuel Armenteros some rest. He scored the opening goal and was a danger all night
