Holding The High Line: Portland Timbers Preview

Podcast (September 5, 2018) – Hello Rapids fans! Today on Holding The High Line, Rabbi and Red join forces on Skype once again. Matt tries to recap the Colorado Rapids friendly against Tulsa Roughnecks FC and the Niki Jackson hat-trick that won the game. None of you saw it and you probably never will. And Red is angry about that. The guys move on to a Portland Timbers preview.

Holding The High Line: Portland Timbers Preview

We talk about the up-and-down season the Timbers have had since last we saw them play the Pids. The guys discuss the impact of Jorge Villafana, international call-ups, and injuries on the match. Matt nerds out on what the 4-4-2 Diamond vs. the 4-3-2-1 Christmas Tree formation will look like. Mark is worried about the uncertainty of the Rapids lineup.

Then we discuss the U.S. Men’s National Team, Kellyn Acosta getting a call-up, and what the program looks like given they still don’t have a head coach.

Matt Pollard is the Managing Editor of Last Word on Soccer and an engineer by day. A Colorado Convert, he started covering the Colorado Rapids as a credentialed member of the press in 2016, though he’s watched MLS since ’96. When he’s not watching or writing about soccer, he’s being an outdoorsman (mostly skiing and hiking) in this beautiful state or trying a new beer. For some reason, he thought that starting a podcast with Mark was a good idea and he can’t figure out how to stop this madness. He also hosts Last Word SC Radio.

Mark Goodman, the artist formally known as Rapids Rabbi, moved to Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, saw Lee Nguyen dribble a ball with the silky smoothness of liquid chocolate cascading into a Bar Mitzvah fountain, and promptly fell head over heels in love with domestic soccer. When not watching MLS or coaching U8 soccer, he’s generally studying either Talmud or medieval biblical exegesis. Which explains why he watches so much MLS, probably. He writes about the Rapids for Around MLS and covers the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL for Last Word on Soccer. He also writes for American Soccer Analysis.
