MIAMI, FLORIDA (July 26, 2018) — The International Champions Cup has arrived to the United States for women’s professional soccer. This year, the North Carolina Courage were the United States-based club to partake in the tournament. North Carolina is currently leading the National Women’s Soccer League with 46 points, making a clear first-place run. Darian Jenkins led them to victory over PSG.

North Carolina won the Supporter’s Shield last year, as the club’s first season in the league. However, the former Western New York Flash fell to the Portland Thorns in the NWSL Championship.

Meanwhile, North Carolina was chosen to face teams like Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Lyonnais and Manchester City.

With the victory, North Carolina moves on to the ICC Final, Sunday. The Courage will face Lyon, as the French club defeated Manchester City, 3-0, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Courage gave another French club a loss. North Carolina beat Paris Saint-Germain, 2-1.

Darian Jenkins scored her first-ever professional goal, notching the game-winner in the 84th minute. Lynn Williams assisted the former University of California, Los Angeles, player.

Meanwhile, Jessica McDonald scored North Carolina’s first goal in the 19th minute. Kaleigh Kurtz, who featured at the collegiate level for the University of South Carolina, picked up the assist.

Where’s the Midfield!?

North Carolina’s win was impressive, considering how many players are away on international duty.

Debinha is representing Brazil in the Tournament of Nations. Meanwhile, McCall Zerboni, Merritt Mathias, Abby Dahlkemper, Crystal Dunn and Samantha Mewis are representing the United States in the same tournament.

That’s essentially North Carolina’s starting midfield.

However, North Carolina has four national team replacement players on the roster. Carlin Hudson, Morgan Reid, Ryan Williams and Sarah Teegarden signed last week. However, the players have been training with the club all season.

Meanwhile, Williams, Teegarden and Reid all appeared in the match.

What’s Next?

The Courage have one more ICC test.

However, Olympique Lyonnais stand in the way of North Carolina making more history than the club already has. The Courage are the first-ever NWSL team to compete against European teams on a competitive level.

Sunday’s championship match will air on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET

Tickets are available as low as $10 via Ticketmaster.
