NATIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER LEAGUE (July 26, 2018) — Playing overseas has become quite popular for women’s professional soccer players.

Sky Blue FC have announced the waiving of Thaisa Moreno and Michaela Abam. Both players had requested the cut to pursue opportunities overseas.

After eight appearances for Sky Blue, Brazilian midfielder Thaisa — Brazilian players commonly go by the first name — is out of New Jersey. The midfielder has featured internationally 64 times for Brazil.

She was recently named to the Brazilian Tournament of Nations roster.

Thaisa began her career back in 2011 with Foz Cataratas in Brazil. Sky Blue FC was her first-ever NWSL club, as Thaisa had featured across Europe for clubs like Tyresö FF and Grindavík.

Meanwhile, Abam was Sky Blue FC’s fourth-overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft. She spent her college career with West Virginia University. Before signing on with Sky Blue FC, Abam was contemplating going overseas.

“I haven’t confirmed where I’m going or what I’m doing – whether it’s abroad or in the States,” Abam, a native of Houston, Texas, said to the Houston Chronicle. “Regardless of where I am, it will be God’s plan. I’d be honored to play abroad. I’d be honored to play in the States. I am looking forward to the draft and what the future holds for me.”

However, she stayed with Sky Blue FC, making four appearances.

Neither player has announced what club they will feature for overseas.

Sky Blue FC’s next match is on the road against the Chicago Red Stars, July 28. The match is slated to begin at 8 p.m. ET.

Sky Blue is still searching for their first victory of the season.

Washington Spirit Waives Maddie Huster

However, Maddie Huster knows where she’s going.

The former Washington Spirit midfielder announced on her Twitter page that she would join Kvarnsvedens IK in Sweden.

Huster — the younger sister of Spirit midfielder/forward, Tori Huster — did not make a single appearance for Washington. Instead, she did spend time, since 2015, with the Washington Spirit Reserves of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.

Washington will wait until Aug. 5 to take the field again. Heading to the west coast, the Spirit will take on the Seattle Reign FC.

The match will begin at 9 p.m. ET.
