Sam Nicholson excited to play former team Minnesota United FC

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (June 22, 2018) – The Colorado Rapids take on Minnesota United FC tomorrow in their first game back since the MLS World Cup group stage break. Sam Nicholson, formerly of Minnesota United, will be playing in his first game against his former club.

The Rapids are feeling refreshed after a few days off last week. “The break was good timing. The players have come in much physically fresher,” said Manager Anthony Hudson.

“Mentally, it’s good to get away, freshen the minds for the lads,” midfielder Jack Price said as well. Nicholson is feeling good after the break and is ready to face his former club. This will be the first time he has to play a former club, as he spent his entire career prior to coming to MLS in Scottland with Heart of Midlothian.

He didn’t mince words about it though. “It’s a bit exciting playing my former team, but I’m a Colorado Rapids player now. I want a win,” said Nicholson.

The Rapids have scouted the Loons and Nicholson has provided some insight on his former club as well.

“We’ve had a few conversations. We do a bit of analysis. We’re familiar with them as a team,” Hudson explained during training midweek.

“I’m going to speak to him about [Minnesota] tonight before the game to get a good scout on them. They’ve got a couple of good players we need to look out for. Hopefully, if we nullify them and then we’ve got a chance,” said Price.

Price and Nicholson could very well be paired up in the midfield tomorrow night. Price, in particular, will be tasked with shutting down the lines of Christian Ramirez, Miguel Ibarra, and designated player Darwin Quintero. Being an attacking player, Nicholson will be familar with Minnesota’s tactics and these three players and their habits.

The Rapids ended a nine game losing streak last week against Chicago Fire. They’ll look to get their first win in over two calendar months tomorrow night, perhaps with a few tidbits from Sam Nicholson on his former teammates.
