CARSON, Calif. (May 1, 2018) – Earlier this week, LA Galaxy announced that right back Rolf Feltscher will be out an expected four months. He underwent successful surgery this week to repair his right pectoralis major tendon.

Feltscher came to the Galaxy in the off-season from Cardiff City of the English Championship. As the Galaxy’s starting right back, he played every minute of the MLS regular season prior to his injury, which was sustained in last week’s loss to New York Red Bulls. In total, he has seven MLS starts and has played 630 minutes.
The 27-year-old was born in Switzerland but plays internationally for Venezuela. Prior to his stint in England, he played professionally in Germany, Italy, and Spain during his career.
With that, Feltscher will be out for approximately four months, meaning the Galaxy will have to do without him until possibly early September. This adds to what has been a terrible 18 months for the LA Galaxy at right back, in both performance and health.
Expect Dave Romney to be the likely starter in his place. Emrah Klimenta, who like Feltscher signed this off-season, could also fill in at that role. Romney has been inconsistent throughout his career in Major League Soccer but has proven serviceable at times. If the rest of the back line and defense can stabilize, he shouldn’t be a liability. That has proven difficult as the Galaxy defense has been porous and prone to mistakes this year.
Look for Romney and Klementa to develop better relationships with their starting right center back (Michael Ciani or Daniel Steres) as well as the right midfielder in front of them (most likely Romain Alessandrini).
The LA Galaxy continue their season next Saturday with a road game against FC Dallas. Kick off is scheduled for 12:30 P.M. PST.
