Seattle Sounders FC announce Víctor Rodríguez’s surgery

Victor Rodriguez

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON (May 3, 2018) — After spending some time on the Seattle Sounders injury list with a right knee sprain, the Seattle Sounders have announced that midfielder Víctor Rodríguez has undergone surgery.

The surgery was done on May 1 by Dr. Michael Morris at the Virginia Mason Medical Center. Rodríguez underwent a right knee arthroscopy.

With the Sounders for over a year, Rodríguez has not appeared for the Sounders this season. However, he was available selection — as Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer included him on the 18-man game day roster — against Minnesota United FC.

Last year, Rodríguez made seven appearances, starting five matches. The midfielder scored two goals and provided one assist in 484 minutes.

The Sounders have not listed a timetable return for Rodríguez.

In a press release, Seattle noted that Rodríguez “is beginning rehabilitation immediately following the procedure.”

Schmetzer answers to critics

During his press conference after Wednesday’s practice, Schmetzer was asked multiple questions about the team’s commitment.

Schmetzer shot down any rumors of laziness and lack of interest.

“I need to tell everybody that we, the players on the field, haven’t quit on the fans,” Schmetzer said. “They haven’t quit. They busted their ass in L.A. The fans who were there in L.A. did what they could to make the atmosphere great. That relationship is still there.”

“Those players haven’t quit on the fans, and I don’t think our fans have quit on us.”

The Sounders currently hold a record of 1-4-1. Their only win came against Minnesota United FC two weeks ago.

Currently, Seattle sits in last place in the Western Conference.

However, Schmetzer — who is without forward Jordan Morris due to an ACL injury — said that the club will “push forward.”

“I want to push forward on all this mess because, I have already told you, as long as I am here, this team is never going to quit,” Schmetzer said.

“Simple as that.”

The Sounders will face the Columbus Crew SC on Saturday. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
