Christen Press signs with Göteborg FC Until the Summer

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN (March 26, 2018) – The Christen Press dilemma between the Houston Dash and the forward is officially over.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article accidentally named Press’ new club as IFK Göteborg. Apologies.

Christen Press signs with Göteborg FC Until the Summer

Press announced on her personal Twitter account Monday that she would be signing with Göteborg FC in Sweden. Press featured for the club back in 2012 where she made 21 appearances and scored 17 goals.

On her Twitter, Press wrote, “I’m looking forward to joining my former club Gotenburg FC and having a successful three months there. Upwards!”

The Houston Dash traded for Press this past offseason with the Chicago Red Stars.

Press came to the NWSL back in 2014 and spent three seasons with the Red Stars. Although she didn’t win a championship in Chicago, Press scored 35 goals in 68 appearances.

Houston was receiving trade offers for Press from the Utah Royals and Seattle Reign FC. However, a deal was never made for Press’ rights.

Press’ current deal with Göteborg FC will expire in the summer, where she can pursue other opportunities in Europe.

The U.S. Women’s National Team forward joins Morgan Brian, Heather O’Reilly and Gina Lewandowski as American players currently overseas.

However, Press has been recently left off the USWNT’s roster due to not being affiliated with a club team.

“She understands our expectations are that a consistent training and match environment for a professional is an important factor for selection into Women’s National Team rosters,” Ellis said. “Since the SheBelieves Cup, our professional players returned to pre-season training with their clubs and have had multiple scrimmages in preparation for the opening weekend.”

“I am certain that once Christen transitions to a new team, she will embrace being back on the pitch and will help her team be successful.”

Press has 98 appearances for the national team and has scored 44 goals.
