HOUSTON, TEXAS (March 25, 2018) – All the Chicago Red Stars needed was stoppage time down at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Taylor Comeau Scores Stoppage Time Goal in Chicago Red Stars Draw With Houston Dash

As soon as extra time began, in the 91st minute, Taylor Comeau made her mark on the score sheet. On a corner kick taken by Danielle Colaprico, the ball made its way to the head of Comeau.

Her header went right past Houston Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell, who barely had time to react.

However, the goal didn’t secure any sort of victory. The Houston Dash got on the board in the 31st minute, with a goal from Kimberly Keever.

Keever’s shot was assisted by Savannah Jordan.

Houston was the more offensive team, in their home stadium. In their first regular-season match under new Head Coach Vera Pauw, the Dash took 12 shots, forcing Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher to make three saves.

On the other side, the Red Stars took five shots. Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell made one save.

During the second half, the intensity rose. Each team had a player receive one yellow card. For the Red Stars, Kathleen Naughton was booked and for the Dash the recipient was Amber Brooks.

The Red Stars were missing a large crop of their roster, including Sam Kerr and Julie Ertz. Ertz is currently recovering from an injury while Kerr is with the Australian Women’s National Team.

Three Takeaways

  1. Chicago needs to sign Erin Yenney: In the NWSL, clubs can make “deals” with players based on national team absences. With the amount of players injured for Chicago, or gone with their national teams, Erin Yenney got her opportunity. She almost had the equalizing goal for Chicago after coming on in the 74th minute.
  2. Houston isn’t impressing anyone — yet: The Houston Dash had their entire roster redone this offseason by Pauw. There aren’t many stars on the roster, especially with Kealia Ohai still out with injury. However, they did manage to keep up with Chicago. However, Chicago was missing a lot of their stars, too. Houston needs a real test before the chatter begins.
  3. Danielle Colaprico was Chicago’s best player: Alyssa Naeher might have her name known the most on Chicago’s current, healthy roster, but it was the Danielle Colaprico show. She was everywhere from the defense, to midfield and finally to the attack. Her take on the corner kick, which led to Comeau’s goal, was critical.
