CARSON, CALI. (December 18, 2017) – After rehabbing an torn ACL, midfielder Miguel Aguilar and LA Galaxy II renewed his contract for the 2018 USL season.
LA Galaxy II Renew With Midfielder Miguel Aguilar After ACL Tear
Aguilar came to Los Dos after playing two seasons with D.C. United. The 24-year-old played college soccer at the University of San Francisco, where he was teammates with current Galaxy defender Dave Romney. Aguilar scored 15 goals and nine assists in college and was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team his final year of college. He was drafted by United in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, 15th overall.
The Mexican-born midfielder played in 23 games in two years with United, but made only four starts. He played just 90 minutes in the 2016 MLS regular season. Aguilar was then signed by Los Dos in exchange for the Galaxy’s natural 4th round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
“It’s unfortunate Miguel was sidelined last season, we were confident he was going to be a big asset for our squad. But he worked hard in his recovery and we remain confident that he’ll be a big part of our team in 2018,” said LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz.
He unfortunately tore his ACL in the USL season opener on March 25, 2017. Aguilar was available for the Los Dos season finale, coming off the bench and playing seven minutes.
Last Word:
Aguilar should be a good addition to an LA Galaxy II team that was one of the worst in USL in 2017. He’ll provide some MLS experience to the midfield. This could be an opportunity for him to work on his fundamentals to potentially make it back to Major League Soccer someday. We’ll have to wait and see what he can bring to the squad next season. Hopefully he’ll be completely healthy and productive in 2018.
