CARSON, CA (March 28, 2017) – LA Galaxy Midfielder Sebastian Lletget sustained a foot injury during Friday’s United States Men’s National Team match against Honduras. After undergoing further testing, it was determined this was more than a foot strain. He will undergo foot surgery next week. He is expected to miss 4-6 months.

Sebastian Lletget Foot Surgery Next Week: Will Miss 4-6 Months And What It Means

This Sebastian Lletget foot surgery is a huge blow to the LA Galaxy. The club was finally getting healthy in the midfield and the attack. Gyasi Zardes and Giovanni dos Santos were on the mend. Romain Alessandrini had a break out game over the weekend.

Lletget was going to be a part of a multi-faceted attack. He was set for a breakout season for club and country. He was going to be on a starter that was going to need him to be a part of the offense. He got his first call up to the national team this year. He scored a goal in World Cup Qualifying and then got hurt. He probably had an outside shot at being an MLS All Star. Now he’ll be back in late July at the earliest.

Fortunately for the Galaxy, they have Emmanuel Boateng. He’ll step into the Starting XI for Lletget on the opposite side from Alessandrini. The midfielder has five goals in MLS play, all against Real Salt Lake. Still, he’ll provide some speed on the wings and give full backs cause to pause.

This is a good opportunity for Raul Mendiola to get some regular minutes off the bench with the first team. Bradford Jamieson IV or Jaime Villarreal could also see time there. Regardless, the Galaxy offense is taking a hit with this. They need Alessandrini to step up and lead. Dos Santos and Zardes need to get healthy and start contributing as well.

This Sebastian Lletget foot surgery is a blow to the USMNT as well, but they’ll be ok. National Team Manager Bruce Arena was very high on the midfielder. Still, they have plenty of depth in the midfield. Christian Pulisic could move out to the wing. They also have Alejandro Bedoya and Darlington Nagbe.
