SAN JOSE, Calif.- San Jose Earthquakes folded early on, as they conceded two goals within the first 20 minutes to what was a Whitecaps “B” squad. The two goals were not enough to put the Bay-Area side to sleep, and even less when Whitecaps goalie David Ousted was showed the red card after a fouling Quakes captain Chris Wondolowski during a one-on-one one showdown outside the 18. That was the exact moment when the remount commenced; largely due to the black and blue imitating 2012s squad inner-goonie mentality. It was a success, as the final whistle marked a 3-2 victory for the Quakes.

A special aroma roamed around Avaya, as the Quakes were able to score three goals for the first time since May 11th of last year in that 3-1 victory over Houston. Anibal Godoy was again able to register another genius game-winning goal, and rookie Nick Lima was the first homegrown player to score in the club’s history.
Coach Dom Kinnear was all smiles as his squad was able to put three goals past Vancouver and, most importantly, earn the three points up for grabs. Scoring three goals in the second match of the season is always a positive sign for any team, but far more significant for the Bay-Area side that was only capable of recording three in a game once last season.
“Lets be honest, at 2-0 down you have to get something out of your attack or you are not getting anything from the game,” said Kinnear. “It’s good to see it come from a usual, a new one, and one guy who doesn’t score so much for us.”
Godoy continued his top form as he rocketed the game-winning goal for the black and blue. The Panamanian seems to find himself at the prime of his career, which comes at an adequate time for both Quakes and the Panama national team. The season is only two games in, but Godoy may find himself on MLS Team of the Week for a second straight week in a row. The 27-year-old credited his recent success only to his team.
“It’s not (best point of his career), because I say it is due to the team’s hard work,” said Godoy. “We need to keep bettering.”
Rookie fullback Nick Lima made history, as he became the first homegrown player in club’s history to score a goal. It took the Quakes second homegrown player only two games into his MLS career to score, while on the other side, the club’s first homegrown signing (Tommy Thompson) has played 2094 minutes without notching a goal. The 22-year-old continues to shine, and is now being accompanied by records.
“The title really doesn’t mean much; it is nice to get a goal and obviously first goal is awesome,” said Lima. “I’m really happy for it, but getting the win at the end of the day is most important.”
