Sebastian Lletget Signs Contract Extension With LA Galaxy

Lletget, 24-years-old, joined the Galaxy from West Ham United in 2014 through allocation. He went over to England as a teenager. While he was with The Hammers professionally from 2010-2015, he had trouble cracking the lineup. He made no appearances in the Premier League while with the club.

Since coming to MLS, Lletget has played in 51 regular season games, recording eight goals and ten assists. The midfielder recently got his first senior level call up to the U.S. Men’s National Team. He played for the national team at the U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels as well.

Primarily a wide midfielder, Lletget started playing a central role down the stretch last season. With Jermaine Jones joining the Galaxy, it is unclear where Lletget will lineup in 2017. The Galaxy are still in the process of courting several players for TAM and possibly DP level contracts.

These midfield signings could affect Lletget’s position and playing time in 2017. Regardless, he will look to continue his growth as a player and an effective attacking threat in Major League Soccer. His play could also work him into the USMNT in some capacity.

Lletget had a base salary of $110,000 in 2016. The Galaxy has not released the details of Lletget’s new deal (term or salary), but it undoubtedly has been earned by the player. Should the Galaxy look to sell Lletget sometime in the future, they could easily demand a larger transfer fee for him. This move also locks him down as a part of the young/midfield core of the team for several years to come.

The Galaxy kick off the 2017 MLS regular season on March 4th at home against FC Dallas.
