The revised 2021 Major League Rugby (MLR) schedule was released on Wednesday. This was because of the Dallas Jackals withdrawing from MLR in January.
The starting date for the league is still March 20 – like the original MLR schedule was. One of the big differences is the Arrow’s first home game will take place on March 20, not March 27, plus some alterations to confirmed venues.
Updated Schedule of 2021 Major League Rugby
Major League Rugby has recently updated their 2021 MLR schedule. The first game of the 2021 MLR season will be between Old Glory DC and NOLA Gold at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March. 20. There is also the Texas Derby, which has two teams after the Dallas Jackals withdrew from the 2021 MLR season.
The first game between the Houston Sabercats and the Austin Gilgronis will be on Saturday, April. 3. Other big games include the first-ever California battle between the San Diego Legion and the LA Giltinis on Saturday, April. 24. The playoffs will remain the same as when the schedule was originally released. There will be an Eastern Conference and Western Conference Final of the top two seeds of each conference.
The winner of those two playoff matchups will meet in the 2021 MLR Final. The final will take place on August 1 and will be shown on CBS according to Major League Rugby. This will be the fourth season of MLR, and is critical to continuing improvements for the league, after it had to cancel its 2020 season early [because of COVID-19].
Overview of the Updated Schedule on Major League Rugby
Like with the news on the Toronto Arrows, the news of a revised MLR schedule was expected. There will be six teams each in the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. The other games on March 20 will include the Toronto Arrows vs. Rugby ATL, Rugby United New York vs. San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves vs. Sabercats, Utah Warriors vs. Gilgronis, and finally the New England Free Jacks vs. LA Giltinis.
MLR fans should not take this news of their season starting next month for granted. According to Glenn MacDonald of Journal Pioneer, the National Lacrosse League (NLL), which has been around since 1986, had cancelled their 2020-21 season.
Two teams announce temporary venue relocations. @SDLegion temporarily relocate to Las Vegas, and the @TorontoArrows will start play in Atlanta and monitor their options as the season unfolds. #MLR2021 #RugbyisBack pic.twitter.com/m0TyKXNPMs

There is only one month until the professional rugby union in North America starts in 2021. There will be a lot of competitive games this season. This will be the first time the second biggest city in America, Los Angeles will have an MLR team.
