Exclusive: Greg Bateman released by Leicester Tigers after contract disputes

Greg Bateman

Greg Bateman has failed to come to an agreement with Leicester Tigers over a renewal of his contract. Bateman, among others have seen their deals in the air due to the COVID pandemic and as such players are forced to move on.

Manu Tuilagi’s future is also up in the air after his contract deal passed the deadline, but despite Leicester confirming that 31 members of staff will be leaving, it is not yet known if Tuilagi is one of those.

Leicester were quiet on Jordan Taufua, despite word being he is still exiting the club. Tuilagi, Noel Reid, Kyle Eastmond, Telusa Veainu and Bateman are all set to be stood down however.

Greg Bateman moving on

The 31-year-old, who has featured 92 times for the Tigers will depart Welford Road after a stalemate in contract negotiations.

He joined the club in 2014 and has been a stalwart in the front row ever since. The loosehead is yet to confirm his destination, which is hardly surprising given the lack of timing since negotiations with Leicester broke down.

It’s expected that the Midlands side will announce their full departure list by the end of the week and Bateman’s name will unfortunately feature within it.

Born in Surrey and having represented England at age group he is also Welsh qualified through his grandmother.
