Japan head coach Jamie Joseph has said that his sides summer test against Wales is unlikely to go ahead. Talking to the Pick up the Pace podcast he revealed why the game is in jeopardy.

Summer test on hold

Wales are set to play Japan before heading into a two-match series against New Zealand. Jamie Joseph, a former All Black and Japan international said, “our [summer] test matches look likely to be either cancelled or postponed until the end of the year.”

The Japanese Top League has already been cancelled due to the pandemic and in New Zealand, where Joseph is currently on lockdown, has begun an easing of lockdown restrictions. Despite the changes borders will remain closed to foreign nationals.

“It’s all up in the air when we can get back into Japan to prepare for those test matches,” he added. “Once we get to understand what the [playing] landscape is like, we just plan accordingly.”

Wales’ previous tours of Japan (2001 and 2013) have yielded three wins in four games.
