POLL: Pick your greatest amateur era XV

Greatest Amateur Era XV

It’s time to pick your greatest amateur XV. We’ve compiled a list of the greatest players in every position from the amateur* days of rugby. The players played all or most of their significant careers pre-1996 and YOU can choose who gets in each jersey.

88 men have been brought together in a who’s who of rugby stars from the days before big money entered the game.

*Some players careers bridged into the professional era, but only their pre-’96 action has been accounted for.

The players run from the end of the war, through to the introduction of professionalism in 1996. The list includes players from all corners of the world, from every major league and are filled with World Cup winners, Domestic and International stars and Grand Slam heroes.

How does voting work?

Fans around the globe can vote for their best player in each position and after 72 hours of the poll being open; the results will be taken and put into your greatest amateur era XV.

The positions of wing and lock will see the number of votes collaborated and the top two in terms of number of votes across the two polls will be selected. The players with the most votes will be in the starting jersey, with the runners-up listed as the reserve for each of these positions.

Look forward to an updated article soon, that will then be compiled after voting results are calculated.

In the meantime keep up to date with all your rugby features, news and fun on our website or social media @LWOSRugby.
