Season ending injury for Gloucester Centre

Following his side’s defeat at Bristol last Friday Johan Ackermann has given Gloucester’s latest injury update and it’s bad news with a season ending injury for Gloucester centre Henry Trinder.

Heinz passed his tests and will be ready to go

Scrum half Willi Heinz is set to play following his well-documented replacement during the Bristol game. Despite initial videos showing the scrum half attempt to re-join the play, the medical staff prevented him from doing so and it has allowed a swift recovery.

”We got the feedback that he was just dazed for a short period on the field. He’s already passed the tests after the match. The modern game has become very conscious of players welfare, there’s certain protocols and we have to abide by those and it’s a good as it means he’s ready for the next week.”

Charlie Sharples not quite ready

Following a hand injury, Gloucester’s top try scorer this season has been struggling with some extra niggles following a return to training, Ackermann saying, ” We’re at a stage where they [Medical team] feel the surgery has healed up well, the only problem is he has one or two niggles now he’s starting to run.

”In theory he may be ready for this weekend, but he hasn’t played a lot of rugby and he hasn’t trained a lot of contact sessions so I think he’ll be closer to match fitness from next week.”

Ciaran Knight getting over niggle

Despite a brutally physical affair at Ashton Gate last week there are no more major casualties to add to the list for Ackermann saying, ” Everyone else is good, Ciaran Knight had a bit of a sore ankle that we’re managing, but come Thursday he’ll be fine.”

Henry Trinder out for the season

Johan Ackermann has revealed that Henry Trinder will be out for the season saying, ”Henry Trinder, during yesterday’s training tore his achilles and will have an operation so it’ll be a lengthy injury.

”I feel sorry for Henry. He hasn’t played the last few weeks because of little niggles. Sore wrist or a sore shoulder and early in the season he struggled with his achilles and we managed him, got him through some games.

”The ironic thing is in the off-week we had he actually said he felt he was the best he’d ever felt on his achilles. He’s [out till] September, if everything goes according to the book, but it’s a long process.”

Ollie Thorley may play if he doesn’t make England cut

There are high hopes amongst Kingsholm’s faithful that they may see their first appearance of this year’s Six Nations. Thorley is remaining with England following an injury to Jack Nowell, but may link up with Gloucester if he doesn’t make a final cut.

”It’s good you know, he’s been off in a few camps and is always getting feedback from the coaches. He’s a great person and every time you go to international camp you’ll learn and get tested and the good thing for him is he’s very close now.

”We’ll know later this week what direction it’ll be, but even if he’s not selected hopefully he’ll be available for us on the weekend.”

Braley set to line up against Quins but no Polledri

Following his exclusion from the 26-man Italian squad to face England, Callum Braley will return to Gloucester ahead of this weekend’s fixture. However Jake Polledri has been recalled by Conor O’Shea and will hope to play at Twickenham on Saturday.
