Sharks versus Lions – the Battle starts early on Social Media

Sharks versus Lions

The Sharks versus Lions derby in the Super Rugby competition started early this week with some testy exchanges on social media this Thursday. The two teams social media was busier than usual after an erroneous report sparked some back and forth between the Unions.

South African Derby – the Battle starts early on Social Media

It all started when an announcement on one of the Emirates Lions media outlets tied the move of Rohan Janse van Rensburg to the Cell-C Sharks. The Lions’ center will in fact be moving to Sale Sharks in the Premiership Rugby competition, effective immediately.

The Sharks then called out the post, tagging it as fake news on Twitter. They said although they thought the Lions player is awesome, he would not be joining them this season.

The Lions hit back, asking twitter users to explain to the Sharks what fake news actually is. They linked their tweet to another announcement where the Springbok center is correctly linked to his new home in England.  However, the Sharks responded by again drawing the Lions’ attention to the post where the confusion originated from.

After the Lions accepted there was a mistake, the Sharks pointed out that they are happy with their current center pairing. They shared photos of both Andre Esterhuizen and Lukhanyo Am (in their Springbok attire).

The Sharks tweeted that breakups are tough, but at least they still had their center baes sorted already.

The Lions simply responded that their returning Springboks, Warren Whitely and Malcolm Marx, would be keeping an eye on them this coming Saturday.

Kick-off for the Sharks versus Lions is 17:05 (CAT) on Saturday at Johnsons Kings Park, in Durban.
