Wales is firmly focused on the Georgia game this Saturday, but Regional rugby has been busy in the market. Here are the Welsh rugby transfer updates following some major revelations this week.
Scarlets Lock-In Beirne Replacement
The Scarlets have found a replacement for Tadhg Beirne annoucing that they have signed Australian lock Steve Cummins from the Super Rugby franchise Melbourne Rebels.
He will join the Scarlets with immediate effect and will be on a long term deal.
Beirne will move to Munster at the end of the season in pursuit of an Ireland international career. Cummins is a solid line-out option as well a hardy breakdown player. He can also cover blindside flanker which will come in handy for the Scarlets with John Barclay leaving the Region at the end of the season.
Stalwart back-rower John Barclay will move to Edinburgh
Since joining the Region from Glasgow in 2013-14 he has made 96 appearances for the Scarlets and lifted the Pro12 trophy last season. He has been an experienced head for the likes of James Davies, Will Boyde and Aaron Shingler to learn from.
Barclay, who captains Scotland against the All Blacks this weekend will leave the Pro12 champions in good form stating that lifting the trophy last season was one of his fondest memories in his career.
Dragons Lead Moriaty Charge
WalesOnline have reported that the Welsh star was due to meet with head coach Bernard Jackman this Friday afternoon.
Jackman is hopeful that he can persuade Moriaty to join the WRU owned Dragons. The Scarlets remain hopeful in their bid for the flanker, and will remain strong in their chase of the Gloucester flanker, especially with Barclay moving back to Scotland.
WalesOnline are reporting that whilst the contract on offer isn’t fully clear, it will likely be a National Dual Contract.
This may raise concerns amongst the other Region’s and their fans as they look at what lured such a major star to a side not covered in recent success over say the Scarlets who have Champions Cup rugby. However, it must be said that the outlook at Rodney Parade is much brighter than it was this time last year, off field at least.
Moriaty must come to Wales before the end of his current contract to avoid missing out on Wales selection under the latest selection policy. Due to him not having over 60 caps and the luxury to remain plying his trade at Gloucester.
