Saracens and England hooker Jamie George insists his side have nothing to prove this season following the semi-final disappointment in May.
Despite retaining their European crown, the North Londoners were one of the favourites to reach the Premiership final.
But the British and Irish Lion is quick to draw on the positives rather than dwell on the negatives.
Speaking at the recent Premiership launch, he said: “We did well last season”, “It was just unfortunate we weren’t quite right going into that final game.
“I don’t think we have a point to prove. We proved that point throughout the season and in the European trophy aswell.
George added “We got a few things wrong in the league, but we’ll learn our message from that and take that forward this season.”
Constantly Improving
The European champions will go into the new season having strengthened an already powerful pack.
Director of Rugby Mark McCall has brought in Callum Clarke, Dominic Day, Christopher Tolofua, Will Skelton and Kieran Longbottom.
“We’re doing a lot in regards to our scrum – we’ve changed a few things there.
“There’s a few new scrum laws so we’re trying to get our head around that and seeing how that’s going to play out.
“We’re constantly trying to improve little bits in our defence and attack. We want to make sure we keep putting teams under pressure with our attack.
“Kev Sorrell and Joe Shaw are working hard to get us in the right position – that’s our main aim.”
Saracens will return to Twickenham for their opening game of the campaign. They will face Northampton Saints as part of the London Double Header on Saturday.
Twickenham has always been a happy hunting ground for Saracens and clashes with the Saints never fail to disappoint.
“We always love the double header. Twickenham is always bouncing, but we know it’s a big challenge.
“[Northampton] They’ve signed really well and they’re looking really strong this year.
“They’re notoriously good at the start of the season – it’s going to be a big test for us.”
The Saracens culture centres on constant improvement, both collectively and individually.
Coaching Excellence
For George, adapting to the continuously increasing demands of the game is a big part of his preparation.
“I’ve been working really hard with Alex Sanderson at the club.
“I want to improve my physicality and around the ruck area is a big improvement for me.
“There’s a wealth of knowledge with such good coaches that they’ll happily facilitate.
“Everyone’s got their on little work-ons and the club will help you out with whatever you need.”
Saracens will kick off their new season at Twickenham against Northampton Saints. Both sides will be looking to get their campaigns off to a good star at the now traditional first day double-header.
