Liam Messam Achieves 150 Super Rugby Caps

It will be an extra special feeling for Chiefs loose forward Liam Messam when he steps onto FMG Stadium, Waikato on Saturday night.

Messam will rack up his 150th appearance for the Chiefs in Hamilton when the Waikato-based club take on the Bulls. Chiefs coach Dave Rennie says that Messam is the best example of Chiefs mana and congratulated the 33-year old on achieving 150 caps in Super Rugby.

Liam is just an inspirational leader, both on and off the park. Some of the charitable work he does in the community makes us all proud and its fitting that he brings up this milestone at home in front of the fans.

Liam Messam: Greatness From A Young Age

Messam made his debut for the Chiefs in 2006 and went on to win Gold with the New Zealand Sevens side at the Commonwealth Games later that year. Prior to making his professional rugby debut, Messam captained the New Zealand Sevens side to a fifth IRB World Sevens Series title. Messam was just 20-years old at the time.

As an All Black, Messam has represented his country 43 times and was part of the 2015 World Cup winning side. Following that, Messam turned his attention back to Sevens rugby and competed at the ill-fated 2016 Rio Olympics.

Messam has dedicated his 150th cap to Ka’iulani Forbes, a young two-year old suffering from a life threatening condition.
