This is one a few months (and years) in the making after Finlay eliminated White from the New Japan Cup, making it to the semi-finals in surprising fashion. Since then, White defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi for the NEVER Openweight Championship but has not been back to Japan since to defend it. This will be his chance to do so as these two have managed to build their rivalry on IMPACT Wrestling’s TV show for weeks now. White added Chris Bey to the Bullet Club in an attempt to give him some aid heading into this one so there is a good chance Bey and Juice Robinson could be in each respective corner.

These two had a great match in the New Japan Cup and have the history to tell another great story in this one. Seeing that this is “Switchblade’s” first title defense, it would make sense for him to get his win back against Finlay and walk out with the gold that he walked in with.

NJPW United States Heavyweight Championship: Lance Archer (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

The moment that Hiroshi Tanahashi was announced for Resurgence, you know that he would be the main event. In doing so, Tanahashi will look to make history as the second Grand Slam Champion in NJPW history by winning the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career. If he were able to capture the title, he would also be the first Japanese wrestler to do so since the title was created. Unfortunately for “The Ace,” it will be no easy task. Lance Archer has made it an effort to prove to everyone why he is one of the most dominant wrestlers in the world right now. His win over Jon Moxley, the longest-reigning champion in the history of the title, made people realize this is not someone to mess with.

It will be cool for fans to see Archer in an NJPW ring once again as it was towards the end of his run in 2019-20 that he showed how great of a wrestler he truly is. “The Murderhawk Monster” versus “The Ace.” The big fight feel will be there and it is the perfect main event for NJPW’s return to live shows in the United States.

More from LWOS Pro Wrestling

Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
