He is the grandson of Salvadorian and Puerto Rican legend <b>El Vikingo<\/b> (The Viking) \u2013 he wrestled all over Latin America before settling down in Puerto Rico. When the company went defunct, he transitioned to the <b>World Wrestling Council<\/b>. It was here that Mendoza began his first steps to greatness, as he quickly rose from the Jr. Heavyweight Division \u2013 he captured once the <b>WWC Jr. Heavyweight Championship<\/b> \u2013 to the mid-card of the WWC. In that process, Mendoza would end up winning the <b>WWC World Tag Team Championships<\/b> \u2013 one with Ray Jr. and three times with <b>Cuervo<\/b> \u2013 and the <b>WWC Puerto Rican Championship.<\/b><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8623\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8623\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8623\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2017\/10\/22472659_1453702744667623_701596736_n-e1508001314462.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8623\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was at the start of this year that Mendoza started to break out. His heel-turn on his longtime tag partner Cuervo was huge, getting reactions and becoming the number 2 heel in WWC, behind <b>Ray Gonzalez<\/b>. In January, he beat <b>Ray Gonzalez Jr.<\/b> in the finals of a battle royal to win the Puerto Rican Championship. For then on, Mendoza was cutting the best promos of his life, while leaving his babyface \u201cenigma\u201d gimmick and morphing into the \u201cScorpion\u201d Mike Mendoza. He has had great matches in <b>WWL<\/b> as the front runner babyface, having a classic beat-out with <b>JC Navarro<\/b> and a big victory over <b>Global Force Wrestling\u2019s<\/b> <b>LAX<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>The WWE Tryout<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Mike Mendoza\u2019s tryout with WWE came from nowhere. Nobody in the island was expecting him to go so soon to Orlando in this stage of his career. Some speculated that Mendoza\u2019s trainee and Olympic Silver Medalist <b>Jaime Espinal<\/b> had something to do with the situation \u2013 as Espinal early this year had a tryout with WWE and even participated on their house show in San Juan \u2013, but come to find out, it was way simpler than that. Sources close to Mendoza claimed that, <i>\u201cIt was just a resume that Mike sent to the WWE, specifically to the WWE Performance Center, and luckily last week, it was answered\u201d.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mike Mendoza vs. JC Navarro- WWL Live (24\/Junio\/2017)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C7eo_m6CBhU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mendoza has already a week in the Orlando in WWE\u2019s Performance Center, as <b>Last Word on Pro Wrestling<\/b> writer and editor <b>Jamie Greer<\/b>\u00a0pointed out about the list of trainees and the tryout, <i>\u201cMike Mendoza has been at WWE\u2019s Performance Center all week. There weren\u2019t a lot of names, but in the men\u2019s side Mike Mendoza\u2019s stood out.\u201d<\/i> It\u2019s unknown what process or impressions he made, but one source close to him said that he will be feature in the final day on a match for the men\u2019s side \u2013 1 of 2 matches for the men. It seemed that WWE saw something in him or wants to keep scouting him.<\/p>\n<h2><b>What does Mendoza brings to World Wrestling Entertainment?<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8627\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8627\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8627\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2017\/10\/mike-mendoza-1-e1508001471685.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Probably ahead from his peers on the island in terms of talent, Mendoza is a star on the rise. He has the looks \u2013 he weighs a solid 205 pounds and stands over 6\u20191\u201d \u2013 and the capability to maintain the high demands of the WWE. His style is a mix of old school fundamentals and hard-hitting moves that he incorporates from his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As a Latino face for the company he is perfect, as he doesn\u2019t come in with \u201cbad\u201d habits from the indies and WWE could develop something around him. Also, the company needs fresh Latino faces, specially Puerto Ricans, since <b>The Colon\u2019s<\/b> are on their way out and<b> Lince Dorado<\/b> is barely used, Mendoza could fill one of those holes.
