Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! In this edition, we look at one of the rising stars of both the LGBTQAI+ and deathmatch scene in the resilient and determined Alex Ocean,<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The new wave of deathmatch wrestlers has been changing the game in recent years as deathmatch wrestling in the US is becoming more and more popular thanks to the incredible array of talents on the scene right now.\u00a0 One member of the new wave that is set for greatness is Alex Ocean.<\/p>\n<h2>Alex Ocean: Deathmatch Sensation<\/h2>\n<p>Alex Ocean first began training to wrestle in August of 2017 when he attended a class with WWE alumni <strong>Gangrel\u00a0<\/strong>at the Main Event Training Center. He got to train under a number of WWE alumni while there as they would pop in to take classes on occasion.\u00a0 It wouldn&#8217;t be long before he made his debut, as he competed for <strong>Coastal Championship Wrestling<\/strong>\u00a0(CCW) in December 2017.\u00a0 Then known as Alex Flash he was a more archetypical wrestler than the deathmatch madman he would become.\u00a0 He soon began to team with <strong>Cha Cha Charlie\u00a0<\/strong>in CCW and\u00a0<strong>New Generation Championship Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>(NGCW).<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Ocean got to perform for\u00a0<strong>Major League Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>in a losing effort to former\u00a0<strong>IMPACT Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>champion <strong>James Storm<\/strong>.\u00a0 In early 2019 Ocean achieved his first major success in CCW as he captured the CCW Tag Team Championships alongside\u00a0<strong>Agony<\/strong>.\u00a0 The two were part of the faction American Horror Story alongside <strong>Jackal<\/strong>, mainly in CCW.\u00a0 Ocean had a brief spell in Vegas that year as he went to attend an IMPACT Wrestling tryout.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Alex Ocean cannot die<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/indiewrestling?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@indiewrestling<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NHB3?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#NHB3<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x8Zo1XZFZz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/x8Zo1XZFZz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Scottify (@scottyda78) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scottyda78\/status\/1279589854385369089?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 5, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>May of 2019 is what sparked the change for Ocean, he made his\u00a0<strong>No Peace Underground\u00a0<\/strong>debut against Tournament Of Death winner <strong>Connor Claxton<\/strong>.\u00a0 Ocean immediately embraced the insanity of the deathmatch world and began to compete in more and more hardcore\/deathmatch style matches.\u00a0 He still wrestled normally for CCW and\u00a0<strong>Generation Championship Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>but had unleashed a deathmatch side to himself that felt like home.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/i\/status\/1365844842941718531<\/p>\n<p>To cap off his breakout 2019 Alex Ocean got to do a quick tour of Mexico with arguably Mexico&#8217;s biggest deathmatch promotion <strong>Desastre Total Ultraviolento (DTU),<\/strong> he then suffered a neck injury that took him out of action for a number of months.\u00a0 Now firmly entrenched in the deathmatch scene Ocean was primed for a breakout 2020 upon his return.\u00a0 He and partner <strong>Jamie Senegal\u00a0<\/strong>were even set to host their own show\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/02\/18\/jalex-takes-back-the-power-card\/\" target=\"_self\">J<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/02\/18\/jalex-takes-back-the-power-card\/\" target=\"_self\">alex Takes Back the Power<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em> COVID-19 put a stop to that show and Ocean&#8217;s career for a number of months but he returned with a renewed vigout and spent the rest of the year killing it for promotions like No Peace Underground and\u00a0<strong>ICW: No Holds Barred<\/strong>, he even made his\u00a0<strong>Game Changer Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>debut at The Collective.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alex Ocean vs. The Jackal in a &quot;Hardcore Open Challenge&quot; at CCW Luchamania 2020 (Full Match)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UJJqqYD6Mnw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He has already kicked things off to a hot start in 2021 with ICW: NHB and NPU still being his main homes.\u00a0 With deathmatch wrestling taking a bigger slice of the independent wrestling pie, talents like Alex Ocean continue to grow their names and become stars of the deathmatch scene.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/search\/indie+watch\" target=\"_self\">Check out our full list of previous Indie Watches, showcasing emerging talent from around the world!<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Stay tuned to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/\" target=\"_self\">Last Word on Pro Wrestling<\/a> for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
