The 8x <strong>National Wrestling Alliance (NWA)<\/strong> World Tag Team Champions have seen a career resurgence in the past few years, ever since they made a cameo in Matt Hardy&#8217;s Tag Team Apocalypto on IMPACT Wrestling. While the duo had still been active for decades but their matches were usually only a handful of matches a year. While regarded as legends of tag team wrestling, they were well past their hey-day from the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>But since their cameo in the Broken Universe, the Rock N&#8217; Roll Express has found themselves not just appearing for the likes of <strong>All Elite Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW)<\/strong>, NWA, and Ring of Honor, they&#8217;ve also become indie darlings, appearing for the likes of <strong>Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Beyond Wrestling, Glory Pro, MCW Pro<\/strong>, and many more. The same team that battled the likes of<strong> The Midnight Express, Arn Anderson &amp; Tully Blanchard, The Rockers<\/strong>, and<strong> The Russians<\/strong> in the 1980s, were now facing the likes of <strong>Santana &amp; Ortiz, The Briscoes, SCU (Christopher Daniels &amp; Frankie Kazarian), The Besties in the World<\/strong>, and <strong>The Butcher &amp; Blade<\/strong>, and competing in tag matches with <strong>Hiroshi Tanahashi<\/strong>. Their return to pro wrestling continued when Ricky Morton was announced for two huge events in the US indie circuit on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>The first announcement revealed that Ricky Morton would be returning to GCW for the upcoming weekend&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2021\/01\/23\/gcw-fight-forever-block-matches\/\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>GCW Fight Forever<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, a 24-hour live wrestling event streaming free on GCW&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCViRdi-RiQBpy-lG_ST2Qiw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official YouTube<\/a> page from 8 PM on Friday night to 8 PM on Saturday night, as part of <strong>44.OH<\/strong>&#8216;s 4-5 PM block on Saturday, <strong><em>What We Want<\/em><\/strong>. Ricky Morton will be teaming up with his son, US indie wrestler <strong>Kerry Morton<\/strong>, facing off against the 44.OH duo of <strong>Atticus Cogar<\/strong> and reigning GCW World Champion <strong>Rickey Shane Page<\/strong>. Ricky Morton is no stranger to GCW by this point &#8211; The Rock N&#8217; Roll Express debuted at\u00a0<em><strong>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break 3<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>during <strong><em>WrestleMania<\/em><\/strong> Week in 2019, facing Santana &amp; Ortiz, and last October, Morton returned in singles action, where he defeated AEW&#8217;s <strong>Joey Janela<\/strong> at\u00a0<em><strong>Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break 4<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>at The Collective. While not as well known as other top US indies like\u00a0<strong>PWG, Beyond, PWX, EVOLVE<\/strong>\u00a0or others, the\u00a0<strong>East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA)<\/strong>\u00a0is a highly respected indie promotion, one that is arguably one of the oldest indie promotions in the country. The Delaware promotion was founded in 1967 by wrestler\u00a0<strong>Jim Kettner<\/strong>, who ran the promotion until retiring in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, it\u2019s been run by indie wrestler <strong>Mike Tartaglia<\/strong>. Tartaglia was a former owner of\u00a0<strong>Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA)<\/strong>, but in 2011, TWA shut down and he switched all focus on ECWA. In the 1990s and early 2000s, they became a breeding ground of top tier indie superstars who all went on to great careers, such as\u00a0<strong>Bryan Danielson<\/strong>\u00a0(Daniel Bryan),\u00a0<strong>Billy Kidman, Low Ki, Austin Aries<\/strong>\u00a0and WWE\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Hardy Boyz<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 all were ECWA regulars in their earliest days. WWE\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Christian<\/strong>, ROH\/Impact\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Christopher Daniels<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Amazing Red<\/strong>\u00a0and ECW\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Simon Diamond<\/strong>\u00a0all held the ECW Heavyweight Championship early in their careers, and<strong>\u00a0Charlie Haas<\/strong>\u00a0is a former ECWA Tag Team Champion, alongside his brother Russ.\u00a0<strong>Tessa Blanchard, Deonna Purrazzo, Karen Q<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Renee Michelle<\/strong> are all former ECWA Women\u2019s Champions.<\/p>\n<p>They were one of the home promotions for three hugely influential late 90\u2019s indie wrestlers,\u00a0<strong>Ace Darling, Reckless Youth<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Trent Acid<\/strong>. ECWA\u2019s style of wrestling was an influence on\u00a0<strong>Ring of Honor<\/strong>\u2018s formation in 2002, and many of ECWA\u2019s regulars would migrate to ROH. In 1997, they initiated the\u00a0<em>ECWA Super 8 Tournament<\/em>, with Ace Darling winning the inaugural event. Since then, the winners have featured the likes of Simon Diamond (\u201998), Christopher Daniels (\u201900, \u201904), Low Ki (\u201901),\u00a0<strong>Paul London<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201903),\u00a0<strong>Petey Williams<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201905),\u00a0<strong>Davey Richards<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201906),\u00a0<strong>Jerry Lynn<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201907),\u00a0<strong>Xavier Woods<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201910),\u00a0<strong>Tomasso Ciampa<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201911),\u00a0<strong>Matt Cross<\/strong>\/Son of Havoc (\u201914) and\u00a0<strong>Jason Kincaid<\/strong> (\u201915), and\u00a0<strong>A Very Good Professional Wrestler\u00a0<\/strong>(&#8217;20).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The first official entrant into the 25th Annual Super 8 tournament on 5\/1 in Morganville NJ is the legendary Ricky Morton!
