{"id":83575,"date":"2021-01-24T11:00:01","date_gmt":"2021-01-24T16:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/?p=83575"},"modified":"2021-01-24T10:16:19","modified_gmt":"2021-01-24T15:16:19","slug":"women-could-see-aew-womens-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2021\/01\/24\/women-could-see-aew-womens-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Women We Could See In AEW Women&#8217;s Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AEW&#8217;s Women&#8217;s World Championship Eliminator Tournament is set to crown a number one contender for\u00a0<strong>Hikaru Shida<\/strong>.\u00a0 The picture used for the graphic has led to speculation that we will see a number of Japanese women compete in the tournament, possibly in matches taped in Japan.\u00a0 We decided to take a look at some women we could see take part in the AEW Women&#8217;s tournament.<\/p>\n<h2>Riho<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-64766 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/03\/Riho-High-Speed.jpg\" alt=\"AEW Women's Tournament\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/03\/Riho-High-Speed.jpg 400w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/03\/Riho-High-Speed-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/03\/Riho-High-Speed-280x420.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With rumors that she has finished up with\u00a0<strong>Stardom\u00a0<\/strong>and could be heading back to the USA soon this tournament could mark the return of Riho.\u00a0 The first-ever AEW Women&#8217;s World Champion has not competed in AEW since March of 2020 due to the pandemic but her in-ring abilities and veteran presence have been missed.\u00a0 Riho winning the tournament and setting up a rematch with Hikaru Shida at <em>Revolution<\/em> would be one of the best matches this division can do in terms of in-ring ability.<\/p>\n<h2>Ryo Mizunami<\/h2>\n<p>Ryo Mizunami took part in the first Joshi match in AEW at\u00a0<em>Double Or Nothing<\/em>.\u00a0 Mizunami has not yet returned to AEW but she is now a free agent and would be free to compete in an AEW tournament.\u00a0 Her infectious personality and hard-hitting strikes would make for a popular addition to the tournament.<\/p>\n<h2>Yuka Sakazaki<\/h2>\n<p>The AYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY girl Yuka Sakazaki won over a lot of fans during her initial matches in AEW.\u00a0 Her high flying style and adorable personality instantly made her a fan favorite.\u00a0 Due to her commitments to\u00a0<strong>Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling\u00a0<\/strong>she was not able to follow up on that AEW success but she has dropped the Princess Of Princess Championships and would be a good candidate to have in this tournament.<\/p>\n<h2>Miyu Yamashita<\/h2>\n<p>If not for COVID-19 there&#8217;s no doubt we would have seen Miyu Yamashita in AEW by now.\u00a0 The ruthless striker has been one fo TJPW&#8217;s top performers for some time now and definitely impressed\u00a0<strong>Kenny omega\u00a0<\/strong>at <em>Ultimate Party\u00a0<\/em>when she fought Omega and Riho in mixed tag action.\u00a0 Yamashita would be a fresh addition to the tournament and would take part in some of the best women&#8217;s matches in AEW.<\/p>\n<h2>Emi Sakura<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Time for Emi Sakura to have another Title Match, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AEW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#AEW<\/a> Women\u2019s Champions is coming to home with me this time.  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/chocopro?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#chocopro<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ofRvNL2CiD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/ofRvNL2CiD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Emi Sakura\ud83c\udf6b (@EmiSakura_gtmv) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EmiSakura_gtmv\/status\/1352104372843397123?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">January 21, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Based on her tweet it would seem Emi Sakura is aiming to win this tournament and earn another shot at the AEW World Women&#8217;s Championship.\u00a0 Much like Riho, Sakura has not been in AEW in some time due to the pandemic but if there is a way for some Japanese talent to take part in this tournament they&#8217;d be silly not to go with a veteran like Sakura.\u00a0 If this side of the bracket is indeed being taped in Japan then some of Sakura&#8217;s Gatoh Move students like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/02\/21\/joshi-watch-mei-suruga\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Mei Suruga<\/strong><\/a> and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/02\/26\/joshi-watch-yuna-mizumori\/\" target=\"_self\">Yuna Mizumori<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>could also take part.<\/p>\n<h2>Nicole Savoy<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74324\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74324\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-74324 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/08\/Screen-Shot-2020-08-11-at-5.40.29-PM-e1597182267337.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"339\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74324\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Savoy &#8220;Lil Swole&#8221; (left)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last time AEW ran a tournament they called upon Nicole Savoy to team up with\u00a0<strong>Big Swole<\/strong>.\u00a0 While the Swole family did not get the win in that tournament Savoy more than earned a callback.\u00a0 While AEW has been loading up on women&#8217;s talent none are more ready for the big stage than Savoy who has long been one of the best unsigned wrestlers in the US.<\/p>\n<h2>Jordynne Grace<\/h2>\n<p>With the AEW\/IMPACT partnership alive and well we might see some of IMPACT&#8217;s Knockouts take part in the tournament.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Deonna Purrazzo\u00a0<\/strong>will likely be protected but IMPACT could definitely send former champion Jordynne Grace to take part.\u00a0 Known for her power-based movset Grace would have a fun time with a new set of opponents, and could even have a great hoss fight with <strong>Nyla Rose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/\" target=\"_self\">Last Word on Pro Wrestling<\/a>\u00a0for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
