From 2014 to 2018, Mil Muertes – allegedly the sole survivor of his family from an earthquake during his childhood who sought vengeance on the world – was one of the principal villains on the critically acclaimed Lucha Underground series on the El Rey Network, holding the Lucha Underground Championship for 217 days. During his tenure with Lucha Underground, Mil Muertes was the weapon of destruction by the magical evil entity known as Catrina (former NXT Superstar Maxine).

It appears that, much like his days from Lucha Underground, the evil spirit of Mil Muertes has once again been resurrected by a powerful woman at odds with her employer, and he’ll be the latest addition to Salina De La Renta’s Promociones Dorado group, a faction in MLW that looks to bring in Latin American stars to exert dominance in the promotion.

https://twitter.com/salinadelarenta/status/1339370717129879553

The group has featured such names as LA Park, Sammy Guevara, Low Ki, Bestia 666, and LA Park’s two sons, El Hijo de LA Park and LA Park Jr. De La Renta is currently feuding with Konnan in MLW, as Konnan has been digging into De La Renta’s past and accused Salina of multiple allegations, such as financial hardship, owing dangerous people money in Mexico, and being the “inside man” that is backing CONTRA’s near two-year invasion of MLW. In bringing in Mil Muertes to MLW, De La Renta is reaching into Konnan’s own past – Konnan managed one of Muertes’ greatest foes on Lucha Underground in Prince Puma (now WWE Superstar Ricochet).

For longtime fans of Mexican lucha libre, Mil Muertes is one of many personas created and mastered by Puerto Rican star Ricky Banderas.
