{"id":79271,"date":"2020-11-22T10:29:27","date_gmt":"2020-11-22T15:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/11\/22\/25-years-ago-ajw-wwf\/"},"modified":"2021-01-08T18:07:35","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T23:07:35","slug":"25-years-ago-ajw-wwf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/11\/22\/25-years-ago-ajw-wwf\/","title":{"rendered":"25 Years Ago AJW Came To The WWF For Survivor Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we will see WWE host\u00a0<em>Survivor Series 2020<\/em>.\u00a0 Their latest annual show dedicated to 10-person elimination tag matches, in the past they were 8-person tags.\u00a0 Throughout the years many legendary names have competed in these matches.\u00a0 One match in particular stands out to us though, in 1995 WWF hosted Team\u00a0<strong>Bertha Faye <\/strong>vs Team\u00a0<strong>Alundra Blayze <\/strong>as a number of women from the famous <strong>All Japan Women&#8217;s Pro Wrestling<\/strong>\u00a0 (AJW) competed on both sides, in fact, every single member of the match had ties to AJW.\u00a0 This wasn&#8217;t the first time the two promotions worked together but never before had it happened on such a scale.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s take a look at some of the names that took part in the match and their ties to AJW.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Aja Kong<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35055\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35055\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35055 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/AK.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/AK.jpg 600w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/01\/AK-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: WWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the all-time greats Aja Kong was an absolute monster and in 1995 was at the peak of her powers.\u00a0 After defeating<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/06\/11\/legends-of-ajw-bull-nakano\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong> Bull Nakano<\/strong><\/a> and ending her historic reign as WWWA Champion (the top title in AJW) Aja Kong took over as the top star of the company, holding the title for over 800 days.\u00a0 She was also a multiple-time WWWA Tag Team Champion as well as All Pacific Champion, AJW Champion, and Japanese Tag Team Champion.\u00a0 Kong still wrestles to this day.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bertha Faye<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">monster ripper having her way with mimi hagawara <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Vw7ZoVmxNA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/Vw7ZoVmxNA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; emil (@TheEmilJay) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheEmilJay\/status\/1077807935022084096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">December 26, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Before joining the WWF Bertha Faye was known as Monster Ripper and spent many years as a monstrous presence in AJW.\u00a0 Her time there primarily came in the &#8217;80s when she was opposite <strong>Jaguar Yokota<\/strong>.\u00a0 She was a two-time WWWA Champion and unfortunately passed away at the age of 40 in 2001.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Lioness Asuka<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/i\/status\/1303338774785646596<\/p>\n<p>Lioness Asuka is one of the biggest legends in AJW history.\u00a0 As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/03\/29\/legends-of-ajw-the-crush-gals\/\" target=\"_self\">Crush Gals<\/a> alongside\u00a0<strong>Chigusa Nagayo, <\/strong>she helped Japanese women&#8217;s wrestling enter a boom period in the &#8217;80s.\u00a0 She was also in the first three women&#8217;s matches to get 5 stars from <strong>Dave Meltzer<\/strong>.\u00a0 Asuka was known for her impressive Giant Swing, a move now done by\u00a0<strong>Cesaro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tomoko Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/imgur.com\/XBRa5QN\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"source: imgur.com\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/XBRa5QN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"500\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Credit: http:\/\/www.marvelcompany.co.jp\/marvelous\/wrestlers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When this match took place Watanabe was little more than a midcard act in AJW.\u00a0 Within a few years she would become one of their best tag team performers.\u00a0 She went on to have five runs as WWWA World Tag Team Champion, and two as All Pacific Champion.\u00a0 Watanabe still wrestles to this day as a member of\u00a0<strong>Marvelous<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alundra Blayze<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28802\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/10\/MADUSA-e1539888841751.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Before she was WWF&#8217;s women&#8217;s division figurehead Alundra Blayze spent time wrestling in Japan.\u00a0 She worked in AJW as Madusa Micelli in 1990 and 1991.\u00a0 She never won a title there but spent time at the top of the card challenging Asuka for the WWWA title, she later joined Aja Kong&#8217;s Jungle Jack faction.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Chaparita Asari<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Beautiful Sky Twister Press to the floor by Chaparita Asari. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kvqoTKra2X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/kvqoTKra2X<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Allan (@allan_cheapshot) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/allan_cheapshot\/status\/898664706981994497?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 18, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>One of the most effortless high flyers of all time Chaparita Asari was always restricted by her size.\u00a0 She never won any of AJW&#8217;s top titles but she did dominate the WWWA Super Lightweight Championship scene.\u00a0 While Japan wasn&#8217;t the place for her she could have been a big star in the USA<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Kyoko Inoue<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/imgur.com\/pHMUimB\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"source: imgur.com\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/pHMUimB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Credit: https:\/\/www-diana.com\/members\/inoue\/<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kyoko Inoue was one of AJW&#8217;s marquee names in the &#8217;90s.\u00a0 From her time teaming with Bull Nakano to her departure, she was a popular star.\u00a0 Just before she left in 1997 she held the three top titles in AJW at the same time.\u00a0 A top-tier wrestler she has the second-most 5-star matches of any women&#8217;s wrestler ever and had many classics in AJW.\u00a0 She still wrestles and over the course of her career has won over 30 championships.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sakie Hasegawa<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">blizzard yuki (aka sakie hasegawa) catches mariko yoshida slipping and kicks her head clear to knock her off guard <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QiTOxL6Lfz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/QiTOxL6Lfz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash;
