{"id":74342,"date":"2020-08-11T22:15:45","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T02:15:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/?p=74342"},"modified":"2020-08-11T22:15:45","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T02:15:45","slug":"wwe-pc-recruits-indie-wrestlers-used-for-raw-underground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/08\/11\/wwe-pc-recruits-indie-wrestlers-used-for-raw-underground\/","title":{"rendered":"WWE PC Recruits, Indie Wrestlers Used for Raw Underground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the recent additions to the Raw show was the introduction of <strong>Shane McMahon<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Raw Underground<\/strong>, a shoot fight club that pits WWE Superstars against all-comers in a grungy old-school gym setting &#8211; which has caused many indie fans to notice it&#8217;s striking similarity to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/07\/28\/game-changer-wrestling-the-revolution-is-being-televised\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Game Changer Wrestling (GCW)<\/strong><\/a> events <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/02\/04\/josh-barnetts-bloodsport-begins-unveiling-combatants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">known as <em><strong>Bloodsport<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, hosted by former UFC Champion <strong>Josh Barnett<\/strong> (even WWE Superstar <strong>Matt Riddle<\/strong>, who hosted the first <em>Bloodsport<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SuperKingofBros\/status\/1292972047904264192\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">noticed the passing resemblance<\/a>). While the show has introduced new prospective WWE Superstars like <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/08\/04\/who-is-dabba-kato\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dabba-Kato<\/strong><\/a> (formerly\u00a0Babatunde), <strong>Arturo Ruas<\/strong> (former NXT talent Arturo Jaoude), plus featured <strong>Shayna Baszler, Erik, Riddick Moss<\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/08\/07\/how-the-hurt-business-restructured-wwe-careers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Hurt Business<\/strong><\/a>, the bulk of the cast &#8211; either opponents or audience &#8211; have been filled by either WWE Performance Center recruits or regional indie wrestlers. Here&#8217;s a look at the &#8220;unknown soldiers&#8221; who have appeared in the first two Raw Underground segments (<em>shout out to Twitter&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LocalCompWWE\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Local Competitor<\/a> who does a fantastic job discovering all the featured indie stars on major programming<\/em>).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mikey Spandex<\/strong>, defeated <strong>Dante Marquis Carter<\/strong> (August 3)<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74347\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/08\/Screen-Shot-2020-08-11-at-9.29.34-PM-e1597195808499.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\"><\/p>\n<p>The very first match for Raw Underground featured two Florida indie wrestlers, with <strong>Mikey Spandex<\/strong> defeating <strong>Dante Marquis Carter<\/strong> in the opening contest. If the two seemed familiar with one another it&#8217;s because on the US indies, they are tag team partners in the Florida indie circuit known as <strong>Task Force<\/strong>. The duo competes in Florida indies such as <strong>Pro Wrestling 2.0, American Combat Wrestling (ACR), Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW)<\/strong>, and others, as well as several appearances for <strong>EVOLVE Wrestling<\/strong>. Both men returned for the second installment, with Spandex losing to Arturo Ruas and Carter becoming Dabba-Kato&#8217;s latest victim. That wrestler was 16-year indie veteran &#8220;Upgrade&#8221; <strong>Mike Reed<\/strong>, a student of <strong>Larry Sharpe<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Monster Factory<\/strong>. Originally debuting in the East Coast scene with East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) and New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC), he returned to his native Florida in 2010 and has since worked with <strong>Go Wrestling, Pro Wrestling 2.0, RIOT Pro<\/strong>, and others. Reed has appeared several times as part of <strong>Ring of Honor<\/strong>&#8216;s <em><strong>Future of Honor<\/strong><\/em> series. Reed made his WWE debut this past June on NXT, when he and fellow Raw Underground competitor Mikey Spandex lost to <strong>Indus Sher<\/strong>. Douglas has been a longtime referee for EVOLVE Wrestling. Kai has previously appeared on WWE TV as medical personnel.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Chico Adams<\/strong>, lost to Dabba-Kato (August 3)<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74352\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74352\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-74352\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/08\/Screen-Shot-2020-08-11-at-9.44.26-PM-e1597196703335.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"387\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74352\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: River Horse Photography<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A student of the Wild Samoan Training Center where he was trained by Afa, <strong>Chico Adams<\/strong> is another veteran of the Florida indie scene. He made his AEW debut earlier this year on <em><strong>AEW Dynamite<\/strong><\/em>, where he was beaten in short order by <strong>Jake Hager<\/strong>. The Miami native has faced the likes of <strong>Hammerstone, Daga, Low-Ki, Dominic Garrini<\/strong>, and MLW World Champion <strong>Jacob Fatu<\/strong> during his tenure with MLW. He had recently begun working for EVOLVE Wrestling this past January, prior to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/07\/02\/report-wwe-acquires-evolve-wrestling\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WWE&#8217;s acquisition of the company<\/a>. While Dominguez hasn&#8217;t wrestled yet on Raw Underground, he made his appearance on the first night as the man attacked by <strong>MVP<\/strong> upon The Hurt Business&#8217; arrival.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ariel Dominguez Vs. Anthony Catena\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PJ7OHkYmOLs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Vinny Mac<\/strong>, in crowd (August 3)<\/h3>\n<p>A third student from Afa&#8217;s Wild Samoan Training Center, Vinny Mac is a veteran of the Wild Samoan&#8217;s <strong>World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW)<\/strong>, where he&#8217;s a 3x WXW Tag Team Champion as part of\u00a0<strong>The New Breed\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0<strong>The Diamond Kid.\u00a0<\/strong>Mac made his debut with WWE in a 6-man match on NXT against\u00a0<strong>The Forgotten Sons<\/strong>, and earlier this year played the part of a bartender during <strong>Sheamus<\/strong> and <strong>Jeff Hardy<\/strong>&#8216;s feud on <em><strong>SmackDown<\/strong>, <\/em>but it wasn&#8217;t his first brush with the WWE &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WWEToughEnough\/status\/593518951188959233\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he auditioned for WWE Tough Enough in 2015<\/a>. The 6\u20195\u2033, 255 lb. second-generation wrestler came to the PC from the gridiron, as he played tight end at the <strong>University of Central Florida<\/strong>, making four Bowl Game appearances (including UCF\u2019s Fiesta Bowl win against Baylor University). If the last name sounds familiar, it\u2019s because his father is former pro wrestler <strong>Wayne Bloom<\/strong>, who was a tag team specialist with partner\u00a0<strong>Mike Enos<\/strong>\u00a0in the late 1980s for the\u00a0<strong>American Wrestling Association (AWA)<\/strong>\u00a0as\u00a0<strong>The Destruction Crew<\/strong>. Wayne Bloom and Enos finally reached the WWF in 1991 and were bleached blond and repackaged as the\u00a0<strong>Beverly Brothers<\/strong>, competing in the WWF tag division through 1993. Cal Bloom has been trained by his father as well as the wrestling school in Minnesota run by former WWE and IMPACT Star\u00a0<strong>Ken Anderson<\/strong>\u00a0(Mr. Kennedy) and former AWA great\u00a0<strong>Brad Rheingans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Marina Tucker<\/strong>, lost to Shayna Baszler (August 10)<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74359\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/08\/Screen-Shot-2020-08-11-at-10.08.24-PM-e1597198131507.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"380\"><\/p>\n<p>Yet another Afa student, <strong>Marina Tucker<\/strong> has been wrestling since 2016 and is the current reigning WXW Women&#8217;s Champion. Primarily trained in Jiu-Jitsu, Andzulis was signed as part of this past January&#8217;s class at the WWE Performance Center and originally came to the WWE&#8217;s attention after competing on <strong>Dwayne &#8220;The Rock&#8221; Johnson<\/strong>&#8216;s <em><strong>Titan Games<\/strong><\/em> show in early 2019.
