Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at a longtime West Coast veteran who has finally found the national television platform as a regular on AEW DARK, &#8220;The Embodiment of Will Power&#8221;, Will Hobbs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the past few years, <strong>Game Changer Wrestling (GCW)<\/strong> has done pretty well discovering regional indie stars who are mostly unknowns and giving them a national platform to make them go viral, with such stars as NXT&#8217;s <strong>Jake Atlas<\/strong>, IMPACT&#8217;s <strong>Chris Bey<\/strong>, and AEW&#8217;s <strong>Jungle Boy<\/strong> and <strong>Marko Stunt<\/strong>. But since the pandemic travel restrictions affected travel for many main roster stars, <strong>All Elite Wrestling<\/strong> has been utilizing scores of regional indie stars on<em><strong> AEW DARK<\/strong><\/em>, giving most of them the most high profile opponents of their young careers. Several of them, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/04\/23\/preston-vance-has-joined-the-dark-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Preston Vance<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(aka Dark Order #10), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/04\/07\/aew-announces-signing-of-indie-wrestler-anna-jayy-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anna Jay<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/06\/07\/alan-angels-joins-dark-order-as-five\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Alan Angels<\/strong><\/a> (aka Dark Order #5), and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/06\/17\/abadon-aew\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Abadon<\/strong><\/a> all joining the company fulltime. Another of AEW&#8217;s recent indie stars has been a 10-year veteran of the West Coast indie circuit in <strong>Will Hobbs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73032\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73032\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-73032\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/07\/Ecar33QUMAE0bOp-e1595377550687.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"411\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: AEW<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Will Hobbs trained at the <strong>APW Boot Camp<\/strong> under trainers <strong>Michael Modest, Donovan Morgan<\/strong>, and <strong>Frank Murdoch<\/strong>, and made his debut with <strong>All Pro Wrestling (APW)<\/strong> in July of 2009 in a Battle Royal for the #1 Contendership for the APW Worldwide Internet Championship. Performing under the name <strong>Will Rood<\/strong>, he was used sporadically as he trained, but it wouldn&#8217;t be until 2012 that Hobbs would become a regular performer with APW.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Will Hobbs vs Marcus Cary Lewis APW 4\/27\/19\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KVIOQgEQv6Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In 2012, he also began to work outside of APW and test the waters in other West Coast promotions, like <strong>Pro Championship Wrestling (PCW), Sacramento Wrestling Federation (SWF), Gold Rush Pro<\/strong> and <strong>Supreme Pro<\/strong>. But he remained one of APW&#8217;s top stars, gaining momentum every year. He won the APW Worldwide Internet Championship twice that year and won the PCW Tag Team titles with <strong>Mitch Valentine<\/strong> in <strong>The Dream Team<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Boyce LeGrande vs Will Hobbs | Phoenix Pro Wrestling | 5\/4\/18 [Match 4]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mIFemiRJ_zc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>By 2016, he had changed his moniker to Will Hobbs, but his star in APW and the West Coast just continued to shine. He won <strong>Championship Wrestling From Hollywood<\/strong>&#8216;s UWN Tag Team Championships with <strong>Damien Grundy<\/strong> in <strong>Cold Cold World<\/strong>, and over the years added another APW Worldwide Internet title and three runs as APW Tag Team Champion alongside <strong>Marcus Lewis<\/strong> in <strong>Lion Power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Will Hobbs vs Royce Isaacs | Phoenix Pro Wrestling | 9\/20\/19 [Match 4]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lj_9LLLSPQU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In 2018, he began working with San Francisco&#8217;s <strong>West Coast Pro<\/strong>, picking up huge wins over the likes of MLW&#8217;s <strong>Hammerstone<\/strong>, IMPACT&#8217;s <strong>Trey Miguel<\/strong>, and 2019 US indie MVP <strong>Chris Dickinson<\/strong> this past November. This January, he defeated former GCW World Champion <strong>AJ Gray<\/strong>. But after 9-years it was starting to look like Hobbs was going to end up another West Coast veteran who never made it to television. But in July of 2020, all that changed, and suddenly it felt like when another long-overlooked West Coast superstar named Scorpio Sky made his debut with Ring of Honor in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jeff Cobb Vs Will Hobbs APW Universal Championship Match 4\/14\/18\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tIrmP0TbxAw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>His AEW debut was a rather short-lived 13-seconds match <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XhifWm8LZiw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">against <strong>Orange Cassidy<\/strong><\/a> on July 7 on <em><strong>AEW DARK<\/strong><\/em>, followed a week later in a 6-man tag team loss against The Dark Order, where Hobbs was paired with <strong>Joe Alonzo<\/strong> and <strong>Shawn Dean<\/strong>.
