Last year saw <strong>Anthony Greene<\/strong> win in a field that featured <strong>Brandon Kirk, Homicide, Warhorse, Jimmy Rave, Joe Gacy, Josh Briggs<\/strong>, and <strong>Steve Mack<\/strong>, with 2020&#8217;s field featuring all first-time entrants, guaranteeing a new winner this year. He joined <strong>Major League Wrestling (MLW)<\/strong> in 2018, where he&#8217;s part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2019\/03\/22\/contra-the-new-beast-of-mlw-is-ready-for-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CONTRA Unit<\/strong><\/a> team that&#8217;s terrorizing MLW. In his first-round match, he&#8217;s facing former GCW World Champion <strong>KTB<\/strong>, an underrated big man who has more athleticism than he lets on, but who is one of the toughest competitors in the US indie circuit.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GSI Tournament, First Round: Tony Deppen vs. Gregory Iron<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73082\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73082\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-73082\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/06\/EdicgaJWAAAAri--e1595453452954.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73082\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Synergy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Tony Deppen\u00a0<\/strong>had to beat\u00a0<strong>JD Drake\u00a0<\/strong>on July 11 to qualify to enter this year&#8217;s GSI but now he&#8217;s in, he&#8217;s set to face an indie veteran in\u00a0<strong>Gregory Iron<\/strong>. Tony Deppen saw a career year in 2019, as one of the Gatekeepers in GCW, as well as working in Beyond and CHIKARA (amongst others), plus partaking in his first-ever <strong>Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG)<\/strong> <em><strong>Battle of Los Angeles<\/strong><\/em>. But Iron is no slouch &#8211; he&#8217;s a 14-year veteran of the North American indie scene with companies like <strong>Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), AAW Pro, Freelance Wrestling<\/strong>, and <strong>House of Glory<\/strong>, as well as Canada&#8217;s <strong>Smash Wrestling<\/strong> and <strong>Alpha-1<\/strong>, where he&#8217;s a former AIW Intense Champion and A-1 Alpha Male Champion. Two tough fighters, this should be a banger.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GSI Tournament, First Round: Gary Jay vs. Matt Cross<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71561\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71561\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-71561\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/06\/EbZiIIDX0AASvdK-e1593454713206.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71561\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Synergy Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>16-year veteran\u00a0<strong>Gary Jay\u00a0<\/strong>has been a staple with\u00a0<strong>St. Louis Anarchy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Anarchy Championship Wrestling (ACW)<\/strong> in Texas for years, but he\u2019s finally getting his due appearing in big matches for the likes of\u00a0Black Label Pro, GCW,\u00a0<strong>Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW)<\/strong>, IWA Mid South, and\u00a0<strong>ACTION Wrestling<\/strong>. He also made his debut with Beyond Wrestlingthis past fall, winning the Discovery Gauntlet in his first match. He&#8217;s facing another longtime veteran in <strong>Matt Cross<\/strong>, who has worked just about everywhere as an international star on multiple continents indie scenes, most notably as <strong>Son of Havoc<\/strong> in <strong>Lucha Underground<\/strong>. Two guys who have seen a lot of battles over their collective lengthy careers, this one should be a clinic.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GSI Tournament, First Round: Myron Reed vs. Jordan Oliver<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73083\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73083\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-73083\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/06\/Edich-fXoAEE9b--e1595453475859.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73083\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Synergy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Jordan Oliver\u00a0<\/strong>had to beat LSG to advance in his qualifier on July 11, and now the young star faces his MLW stable mate <strong>Myron Reed<\/strong> from <strong>Injustice<\/strong>. Oliver is a regular with GCW and a former CZW Wired Champion, and together with Reed in MLW, the young unit is changing the landscape in Major League Wrestling. Reed has been one of the top young stars in the US for a while now, working with AAW, Rockstar Pro, CZW, IWA Mid South, and many more, although he&#8217;s found most of his success as a tag team specialist, winning tag team gold in IWA Mid South with <strong>Sugar Dunkerton<\/strong> (AEW&#8217;s Pineapple Pete) and <strong>Trey Miguel<\/strong>, AAW with <strong>AR Fox<\/strong>, and Glory Pro with <strong>Stephen Wolf<\/strong>. But don&#8217;t count him out as a singles competitor just yet &#8211; he&#8217;s also the reigning MLW World Middleweight Champion and former Crown of Glory Champion in Glory Pro. Two stars with bright futures, looking to have match of the night.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Synergy Cruiserweight Crown: TJ Crawford vs. Kasey Catal vs. Ellis Taylor<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71558\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71558\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-71558\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/06\/EbZgGImWkAMw7nw-e1593454792469.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71558\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Synergy Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In one of two non-tournament matches, three wrestlers will compete for the inaugural Synergy Cruiserweight Crown on Saturday night. Chicago&#8217;s <strong>TJ Crawford<\/strong> is a rising star from the Midwest who was trained by <strong>Pat Buck &amp; Brian Myers<\/strong> (Curt Hawkins) at <strong>Create-A-Pro<\/strong> in New Jersey, where he competes for <strong>WrestlePro<\/strong> (he&#8217;s one-third of the reigning WrestlePro Trios Champions, The Beach Bums). New York&#8217;s <strong>Kacey Catal<\/strong> is another Create-A-Pro student who has risen the ranks quickly in only three years, winning the inaugural Empower Championship for <strong>Empower Wrestling<\/strong>, a new all-women promotion based out of New Jersey, that she still holds over 270-days later. Philadelphia&#8217;s <strong>Ellis Taylor<\/strong> is a product of the CZW Dojo, but the 21-year old has become another rising star in the US indies as part of the youth movement stable <strong>Young Dumb N&#8217; Broke<\/strong> alongside Jordan Oliver, <strong>Charlie Tiger, Griffin McCoy, Valentina Vazquez<\/strong>, and <strong>Jae Fre<\/strong> (Taylor and Tiger are the current reigning <strong>Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment (AWE)<\/strong> Tag Team Champions).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Synergy Championship: Frightmare (c) vs. Desean Pratt<\/strong><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71557\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71557\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-71557\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/06\/EbZgFSaWAAAjJw2-e1593454809946.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71557\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Synergy Wrestling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Synergy Champion Frightmare is set to face former CHIKARA roster-mate\u00a0<strong>Desean Pratt<\/strong>\u00a0(formerly the masked\u00a0<strong>Amasis<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>Osiris Portal<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<strong>Ophidian<\/strong>) on Saturday night, but these two have a grudge to settle beyond championship belts. The two feuded for seven years in CHIKARA, with their last encounter happening at\u00a0<em><strong>CHIKARA Temple of Doom<\/strong><\/em> in December of 2016, where Frightmare beat Amasis, forcing him to unmask.
