COVID-19 continues to be an immense problem around the world, but in many Latin American countries, it appears to be even more so. It has apparently claimed another victim in the lucha libre community, with the announced passing of Matem\u00e1tico II<\/strong>, a wrestler who comes from a large wrestling family, at the age of 50 on Thursday, June 4. It came just days after the passing of Dragon Chino II<\/strong><\/a>, reportedly from the same complications, as well as the April passing of Black Demon<\/strong><\/a>, also from COVID-19 complications.<\/p>\n

Rodolfo Garcia<\/strong> (aka Matem\u00e1tico II) is the grandson of Mexican luchador Ruddy Garcia <\/strong>and son of the original El Matem\u00e1tico<\/strong>. El Matem\u00e1tico was a star with Universal Wrestling Association (UWA)<\/strong> where he won the UWA World Lightweight Championship and UWA World Welterweight Championship, the latter for 791-days. Matem\u00e1tico II’s brothers, Matem\u00e1tico Jr. \/Libertador<\/strong> and Matem\u00e1tico III<\/strong>, also wrestled, as did his uncles, Hurac\u00e1n Ram\u00edrez, El Demonio Rojo<\/strong>, and El Catedr\u00e1tico\/La Panter Roja<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Matem\u00e1tico II made his debut with Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre<\/strong> (EMLL, prior to it rebranding as the now Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre<\/b>) before heading to the UWA in the mid-1980s. There he would work primarily tag team and trios matches, often with his father and brother Matem\u00e1tico III in Los Matem\u00e1ticos. In the early 1990s, he would make the jump with his family to the upstart Asistencia Asesor\u00eda y Administraci\u00f3n\u00a0<\/b>(now AAA Lucha Libre). Following his departure from performing, he had been working in his native Mexico as a police officer, before going into hospital in late May with respiratory issues due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
