He was 88 years old.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Some late night news to share. South Korean wrestling legend Cheon Gyu Deok passed away. One of the members of Korea&#39;s wrestling first wave, along with people as Kim IL (Kintaro Oki) and Yeo Geon-bu. Our deepest sympathies go out to this Korean legend and his family <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MgYm8Mh1lm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/MgYm8Mh1lm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Cauliflower Alley Club (@CACReunion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CACReunion\/status\/1268393595800662016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 4, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Cheon Gyu-deok was part of the first great wave of pro wrestling in South Korea, that saw the formation of Korea\u2019s top promotion,\u00a0<strong>Korean Wrestling Association (KWA)\u00a0<\/strong>in 1961. Founded by <b>Kintar\u014d \u014cki<\/b>, a Korean wrestler who had trained under <b>Rikid\u014dzan\u00a0<\/b>(a Korean who had moved to Japan to become the godfather of Japanese\u00a0<em>puroresu<\/em>), \u014cki returned to his native Korea and competed as <strong>Kim Il<\/strong>, \u201cThe Headbutt Master\u201d.\u00a0 Cheon Gyu-deok was part of a class of wrestlers that included the likes of <strong>\u201cSuper Dragon\u201d Lee Wang-pyo, Yeo Geon-bu,\u00a0<\/strong>and many others, who helped usher in professional wrestling into the country. Sadly, infighting between promoters, particularly between Kim Il and <strong>Chang Yong-chol<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(the man responsible for helping kickstart pro wrestling in Korea, and by the mid-1970s, pro wrestling had fallen out of favor in Korea.<\/p>\n<p>Last Word on Pro Wrestling sends its deepest condolences to Cheon Gyu-deok&#8217;s family, friends, peers, and fans around the world.
