{"id":69074,"date":"2020-05-26T12:31:34","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T16:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/?p=69074"},"modified":"2020-05-26T12:31:34","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T16:31:34","slug":"preview-wwe-nxt-5-27-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/05\/26\/preview-wwe-nxt-5-27-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Preview: WWE NXT (5\/27\/20)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WWE<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>NXT<\/strong> is back this Wednesday with an exciting card of professional wrestling.\u00a0 They have been competing weekly with <strong>AEW Dynamite<\/strong> now for the better part of a year.\u00a0 With AEW riding high after an extremely successful <em><strong>Double or Nothing 2020<\/strong><\/em>, NXT needs to up its game.\u00a0 This week, they have announced what appears to be a full card in advance of the show.\u00a0 AEW Dynamite will again welcome <strong>Mike Tyson<\/strong> this week, so a fully advertised card was essential for NXT&#8217;s chances in the ongoing ratings war.\u00a0 Without further ado, let&#8217;s dive in and take a look at what the black and yellow brand has to offer.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Group A Decider: Drake Maverick vs KUSHIDA vs Jake Atlas<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69075\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/05\/Drake-Maverick-vs-KUSHIDA-vs-Jake-Atlas-e1590152090608.jpg\" alt=\"WWE NXT\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first match of the evening sees the continuation of the NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament.\u00a0 <strong>Drake Maverick<\/strong>, <strong>KUSHIDA<\/strong> and <strong>Jake Atlas<\/strong> are all tied at 2-1 in Group A.\u00a0 Therefore, a tie breaker is needed to determine who progresses into the next round.\u00a0 Maverick has appeared as a potential favorite within the tournament.\u00a0 Despite being announced among the Black Wednesday releases a couple of months ago, he has gone from strength-to-strength to prove he deserves a place on the NXT roster.\u00a0 Two weeks ago, he pulled off his biggest upset yet; defeating KUSHIDA.\u00a0 KUSHIDA has been one of the favorites for the tournament himself, so this proved Drake is not yet finished.\u00a0 Jake Atlas is perhaps the underdog of the match; neither possessing the story of Maverick nor the starpower of KUSHIDA.\u00a0 However, he did provide Maverick with his (so far) sole loss in the tournament.\u00a0 Can he pull off an upset? Will Maverick survive another day? Or will KUSHIDA return to form? Tune in this Wednesday to find out.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Io Shirai &amp; Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte Flair &amp; ??<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69191\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/05\/Rhea-Ripley-Io-Shirai-vs-Charlotte-Flair-Unknown-e1590350175174.jpg\" alt=\"WWE NXT\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, <strong>Charlotte Flair<\/strong> got involved in the number one contender match between <strong>Io Shirai<\/strong> and <strong>Rhea Ripley<\/strong>.\u00a0 As a result, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/05\/13\/nxt-reveals-nxt-takeover-in-your-house-for-june\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>NXT TakeOver: In Your House<\/strong><\/em><\/a> will now offer what could potentially be one of the all-time great women&#8217;s matches.\u00a0 Io Shirai vs Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte Flair.\u00a0 Of course, there are many questions which arise from this.\u00a0 Why would Charlotte purposefully get involved and cause her title defense to be a match where she does not need to be pinned to lose the championship? Who knows.\u00a0 Maybe she just likes to fight.\u00a0 She has been wrestling across all the brands in recent weeks, so that somewhat makes sense.\u00a0 Regardless, this match will be excellent.\u00a0 This week she teams with a mystery partner to take on her <em>In Your House<\/em> opponents.\u00a0 Who will her partner be? Unlikely.\u00a0 Will Velveteen Dream have something to say to his likely<em> NXT TakeOver: In Your House<\/em> opponent? Very likely.\u00a0 Stay tuned.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cage Fight: Matt Riddle vs Timothy Thatcher &#8211; Special Guest Referee Kurt Angle<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69077\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/05\/Matt-Riddle-vs-Timothy-Thatcher-e1590152201339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Timothy Thatcher<\/strong> turned on <strong>Matt Riddle<\/strong> just two weeks ago.\u00a0 In doing so, he cost Riddle and<strong> Pete Dunne<\/strong> (who Thatcher was standing in for) their NXT Tag Team Championships to <strong>Imperium<\/strong>.\u00a0 Later in the night, a furious Riddle defeated Thatcher with a roll-up.\u00a0 With Riddle reportedly moving to <strong>SmackDown<\/strong> this week, this will likely be the blow-off to their feud.\u00a0 Oh, and it&#8217;s inside a cage&#8230; with <strong>Kurt Angle<\/strong> as the referee.\u00a0 This will clearly be no ordinary match and if it&#8217;s the kind of cage it&#8217;s believed to be (the match is billed as a &#8220;cage fight&#8221;), ex-<strong>UFC<\/strong> welterweight, Riddle, will be in his element.\u00a0 Make sure not to miss this fight.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Not Announced But Expected<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; Build to Kross vs Ciampa<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Brewing tensions between\u00a0<strong>Johnny Gargano<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Candice LaRae<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Keith<\/strong> <strong>Lee<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Mia Yim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Is William Regal going to do anything about these kidnappings??<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Finn Balor and Damian Priest continue their built to Takeover<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last Word on Pro Wrestling<\/a>\u00a0for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
