{"id":67625,"date":"2020-04-28T06:07:48","date_gmt":"2020-04-28T10:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/?p=67625"},"modified":"2020-04-28T08:47:23","modified_gmt":"2020-04-28T12:47:23","slug":"cain-velasquez-gone-from-wwe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/04\/28\/cain-velasquez-gone-from-wwe\/","title":{"rendered":"Cain Velasquez Gone From WWE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has today been reported that former two-time <strong>UFC<\/strong> Heavyweight Champion, <strong>Cain Velasquez<\/strong>, has been released by<strong> WWE<\/strong>.\u00a0 The news comes from <strong>Dave Meltzer<\/strong>, on <em>Wrestling Observer Radio<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You may remember Cain made his WWE debut on <strong>SmackDown<\/strong>&#8216;s FOX debut, in October of last year.\u00a0 In addition, it was SmackDown&#8217;s 20th anniversary show.\u00a0 In that debut, he came to the aid of <strong>Rey Mysterio<\/strong>; who had been tormented by<strong> Brock Lesnar<\/strong> in recent weeks.\u00a0 This reignited Cain and Brock&#8217;s near decade old UFC rivalry.\u00a0 The initial feud led to a fight for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, which Velasquez won.<\/p>\n<p>In debuting for the WWE, it became clear that this was an attempt by FOX to present SmackDown as more of a sports TV show.\u00a0 Velasquez was signed to help legitimize the blue brand.\u00a0 However, this didn&#8217;t quite go as expected.\u00a0 Cain was a rookie and was therefore still pretty &#8220;green&#8221; in the ring.<\/p>\n<p>Velasquez had his WWE debut match on October 31, 2019, against Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at the Saudi <em><strong>Crown Jewel<\/strong><\/em> event.\u00a0 The Californian would lose the match against Brock; tapping to the Kimura in just 130 seconds.\u00a0 After the match, he was attacked by Lesnar.\u00a0 Many felt this was an attempt to prolong the feud and eventually have Cain defeat Brock.\u00a0 Sadly, this never worked out.<\/p>\n<p>It is never nice to see talent released from the WWE.\u00a0 Especially when the scenario is likely a factor of COVID-inflicted budget cuts.\u00a0 However, Cain is a very wealthy man and should be fine.\u00a0 Maybe we will see him in the ring again.\u00a0 Maybe a future MMA fight awaits?
