the beginnings of <strong>Texas Red <\/strong>and <strong>Mean Mark Callous<\/strong>.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/03\/24\/undertaker-five-decades-of-the-deadman-part-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Part two<\/a> took a lengthy look at the &#8217;90s; the decade that made &#8220;The Deadman&#8221;.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/03\/28\/undertaker-five-decades-of-the-deadman-part-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last week&#8217;s third part<\/a> walked us through Undertaker&#8217;s career in the 2000s &#8211; arguably his most impressive and innovative decade so far.\u00a0 This week, we shall be looking at the 2010s &#8211; so let&#8217;s begin!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Undertaker Returns at SummerSlam 2010<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After defeating <strong>Shawn Michaels<\/strong> in the epic Streak vs Career match at <em><strong>WrestleMania XXVI<\/strong><\/em>, The Undertaker took a break.\u00a0 Years of life on the road had taken its toll and in the very near future, the Deadman would move to part-time.\u00a0 The initial break was short; he was back by May, where he would defeat <strong>Rey Mysterio<\/strong> on an episode of <strong>SmackDown<\/strong>.\u00a0 In doing so, he would qualify for a title shot at the Fatal Four Way pay-per-view.\u00a0 During this match, Taker suffered an injury &#8211; leading to Mysterio going on to win the World Heavyweight Championship.\u00a0 The injury was turned into an angle; with the storyline being Undertaker was assaulted backstage and left in a &#8220;vegetative state&#8221;.\u00a0 Long-time rival and on-screen brother <strong>Kane<\/strong> would accuse Mysterio, whilst life-time babyface Mysterio accused Kane.\u00a0 It made for quite the rivalry.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SmackDown: Revisit the explosive rivalry between Kane and Mysterio\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vPC7Y89UZT8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kane won the <em><strong>Money in the Bank<\/strong><\/em> ladder match at the pay-per-view and cashed in on Mysterio that same night.\u00a0 This would eventually lead to Undertaker returning to confront the two men at <em><strong>SummerSlam 2010<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Of course, we got the big reveal: it was Kane all along.\u00a0 He then proceeded to attack The Undertaker, nailing him with a tombstone piledriver.\u00a0 It&#8217;s always gotta be Kane.\u00a0 This would be the first time Kane would score more victories over The Undertaker in a rivalry since the 1990s.\u00a0 Of course, this would also prove to be the final chapter in the tale of this decades-long feud.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SmackDown: History of the Brothers of Destruction\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YET0pMs4X9o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kane would defeat The Undertaker at <em><strong>Night of Champions 2010<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and then again at <em><strong>Hell in a Cell 2010<\/strong><\/em>, with Kane being assisted by on-screen father, <strong>Paul Bearer<\/strong>.\u00a0 At <em><strong>Bragging Rights 2010<\/strong><\/em>, Kane would be victorious again &#8211; this time with help from <strong>The Nexus<\/strong>.\u00a0 It has since been confirmed that Undertaker was originally booked to score a victory in the match, but a torn rotator cuff led to plans changing.\u00a0 With the feud coming to an end and yet another injury causing The Undertaker to take time off, it was time to make the move to a part-time schedule.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Undertaker Moves to Part-Time<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Immediately following the defeat to Kane, Undertaker took another hiatus.\u00a0 At 45 years of age and a growing list of injuries taking its toll, a full-time schedule was no longer a possibility.\u00a0 Undertaker has spoken out on his injuries a few times over the past couple of years.\u00a0 Here is one such quote which details the extent of his injuries and why it was necessary to make the jump to part-time when he did.\u00a0 The quote comes from Undertaker&#8217;s interview with Fellowship Church&#8217;s Senior Pastor Ed Young for the first installment of <strong><em>Wrastlin&#8217;: A Series By Ed<\/em><\/strong><em><strong> Young<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Let&#8217;s see, both eye sockets have been crushed. Yeah, both. No, they were separate. They were years apart. I&#8217;ve had probably, I&#8217;m guessing I&#8217;m closing in on 20 orthopedic type of surgeries from wrestling related injuries. Both hips have had a form of hip replacement. Torn biceps, torn pecs, torn tricep, bone spurs&#8230; I think I&#8217;m a little tougher than I am smart.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With so many injuries inflicting upon Undertaker&#8217;s quality of life, the shift to a lighter schedule was absolutely necessary.\u00a0 Additionally, in 2010, Undertaker re-married.\u00a0 Fellow <strong>WWE<\/strong> superstar, <strong>Michelle McCool<\/strong>, married the Deadman at a private ceremony near their home in Houston, Texas.\u00a0 Whereas Taker moved to part-time, McCool retired entirely &#8211; choosing instead to focus on raising a family.\u00a0 It was time for both to enjoy the family lifestyle which a WWE touring schedule simply would not allow.\u00a0 After the <em><strong>2011 Royal Rumble<\/strong><\/em>, the Deadman would make his return.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>WrestleMania Rivalry With Triple H<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After weeks of the numbers 2-21-11 being used to tease some kind of announcement, Taker would return on the <strong>RAW<\/strong> taking place on that date.\u00a0 When he entered the ring, grabbed the microphone and began to speak.\u00a0 Before he spoke a word, <strong>Triple H<\/strong> entered to the sound of Motorhead&#8217;s &#8220;King of Kings&#8221; theme song.\u00a0 Taker had changed his theme; embracing the nickname &#8220;The Last Outlaw&#8221; whilst entering to Johnny Cash song &#8220;Ain&#8217;t No Grave&#8221;.\u00a0 The two veterans would challenge each other to a match at <em><strong>WrestleMania XXVII<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; a &#8220;No Holds Barred&#8221; match.\u00a0 Undertaker would submit Triple H with the Hells Gate finisher, making it 2-0 over &#8220;The Game&#8221; at <em>WrestleMania<\/em> (and 19-0 overall).<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/xvQN81bTXRI<\/p>\n<p>The Undertaker didn&#8217;t return until ten months later to taunt and goad Triple H into a <em>WrestleMania<\/em> rematch.\u00a0 In reality, it would be The Game&#8217;s second rematch.\u00a0 Triple H initially refused &#8211; he had began embracing the corporate, COO title.\u00a0 However, when Undertaker mocked Triple H further &#8211; accusing him of living in the shadow of long-time ally Shawn Michaels &#8211; Triple H accepted.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/IlYu69x58kE<\/p>\n<p>The match was set.\u00a0<em><strong> WrestleMania XXVIII<\/strong> <\/em>would see this trilogy come to an end.\u00a0 The added stipulation of Hell in a Cell &#8211; a match specialty for both &#8211; made it fitting.\u00a0 Michaels &#8211; retired by The Undertaker and best friend of Triple H &#8211; added the necessary drama.\u00a0 It was to be the &#8220;End of an Era&#8221; match.\u00a0 Taker, sporting a short mohawk-style haircut for the first time, won the match.\u00a0 The image of Triple H, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker limping to the back together was one which would forever be remembered.\u00a0 It truly was the end of an era.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WWE Superstars react to the &quot;End of an Era&quot;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1491xbmCji4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Undertaker and the Controversial Feud With CM Punk<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Aside from a brief appearance at <em><strong>RAW 1000<\/strong><\/em>, where he saved Kane from a beat down, Taker would take almost a year off.\u00a0 At an episode of Old School RAW on March 14 2013, Undertaker would open the show and issue a challenge.\u00a0 <strong>Big Show<\/strong>, <strong>Randy Orton<\/strong>, <strong>Sheamus<\/strong> and <strong>CM Punk<\/strong> would battle it out.\u00a0 The match would be to determine the challenger to Undertaker&#8217;s streak at <em><strong>WrestleMania XXIX<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 CM Punk would win the match, thus igniting what would go down in history as one of the WWE&#8217;s more controversial rivalries.\u00a0 Certainly within the &#8220;PG Era&#8221; of WWE history.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FULL-LENGTH MATCH - Raw 2013 - Randy Orton vs. CM Punk vs. Big Show vs. Sheamus\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rYPMv6EYGxA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On March 5th 2013, William Moody &#8211; the real-life name of Paul Bearer &#8211; sadly passed away.\u00a0 Tributes poured in to the on-screen father of Kane, who was also Undertaker&#8217;s manager spanning decades.\u00a0 The &#8220;bearer&#8221; of The Undertaker&#8217;s urn &#8211; the object which controlled the Deadman during the early days of his WWE tenure.\u00a0 CM Punk stole the object; mocking both it and Paul Bearer over the course of the feud.\u00a0 He would mock Paul Bearer&#8217;s iconic, eerily high-pitched voice.\u00a0 Punk would tip the ashes from the urn onto the ground.\u00a0 It was a very morbid feud, but given the short amount of time they had to build the match and Taker&#8217;s limited appearances, Punk made their match at <em>WrestleMania XXIX <\/em>must-see.\u00a0 Taker would arrive at<em> WrestleMania<\/em> in 2013 looking for a fight and would love 21-0.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A look at the intense rivalry between CM Punk and The Undertaker: SmackDown, April 5, 2013\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5I6aVqAd0Dg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Short Feud With The Shield<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The following night on RAW, The Undertaker would begin a short feud with <strong>The Shield<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Dean Ambrose<\/strong>, <strong>Seth Rollins<\/strong> and <strong>Roman Reigns<\/strong> would take on The Undertaker, Kane and <strong>Daniel Bryan<\/strong>.\u00a0 They would lost to The Shield on RAW (April 22, 2013).\u00a0 Not long after, Undertaker would submit Dean Ambrose on SmackDown, before finding himself on the receiving end of a Shield triple powerbomb.\u00a0 The Undertaker would be written off TV until the following year.\u00a0 The following year&#8217;s <em>WrestleMania<\/em> was<em><strong> WrestleMania XXX<\/strong> <\/em>and it would prove to be the most important of his career.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"After battling Dean Ambrose, The Undertaker feels the brutal wrath of The Shield: SmackDown\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3WKGSUlzVlc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Beast Conquers &#8220;The Streak&#8221;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Brock Lesnar<\/strong> is no normal man.\u00a0 A former <strong>UFC<\/strong> Heavyweight Champion; an <strong>NCAA<\/strong> champion and a naturally gifted freak athlete.\u00a0 His credentials make him a true, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2020\/04\/02\/box-office-prizefighter-looking-back-at-brock-lesnar-wrestlemania-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mainstream box office attraction<\/a>.\u00a0 Lesnar had been something of a bane in The Undertaker&#8217;s career during his first run (2002-2004) in the WWE (read more in Part 3).\u00a0 In contrast, The Undertaker had constructed a legacy within pro-wrestling; building a <em>WrestleMania<\/em> streak that no one will ever be able to match.\u00a0 If any wrestler was a realistic enough option to conquer the undefeated streak at <em>WrestleMania<\/em>, it was Brock Lesnar.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WWE star Brock Lesnar&#039;s 2OT NCAA title win in 2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3TFe5IYkPfQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>At <em>WrestleMania XXX<\/em> &#8211; after a gruelling 25-minute match featuring a number of close-falls &#8211; Lesnar did just that.\u00a0 75,167 was the number of fans in attendance (according to WWE) that night.\u00a0 Every last one of them were stunned into silence.\u00a0 All that could be heard was <strong>Paul Heyman<\/strong> shouting &#8220;oh my God!&#8221; repeatedly in disbelief.\u00a0 It was truly the most shocking moment in WWE history.\u00a0 Following the match, The Undertaker was hospitalized &#8211; accompanied by long-time boss and friend, <strong>Vince McMahon<\/strong>.\u00a0 McMahon later revealed on the <em><strong>Steve Austin Podcast<\/strong><\/em> that he made the call for Undertaker&#8217;s streak to end that night.\u00a0 It will go down in wrestling history as one of the bravest and most polarizing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Director&#039;s cut of The Undertaker&#039;s Streak ending\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0pb3NfeykSg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Undertaker Returns to Form<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>No one truly knew whether that would be The Undertaker&#8217;s final match until the following year&#8217;s <em>WrestleMania<\/em>.\u00a0 At <em><strong>WrestleMania XXXI<\/strong><\/em>, The Deadman returned to winning ways with a victory over<strong> Bray Wyatt<\/strong> &#8211; who had spent months challenging Undertaker to a <em>WrestleMania<\/em> match.\u00a0 Though the match was fun and Undertaker looked in significantly better shape than in recent years, the magic was gone.\u00a0 Undertaker would have a further two matches with Brock Lesnar in 2015 &#8211; citing his reason as &#8220;revenge&#8221; for Paul Heyman&#8217;s constant taunting of the streak&#8217;s end.\u00a0 He scored a controversial win over The Beast at <em><strong>SummerSlam 2015<\/strong><\/em>, but was then defeated at <em><strong>Hell in a Cell 2015<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The rivalry was finally at an end.\u00a0 However, The Brothers of Destruction would become entrapped in a rivalry with <strong>The Wyatt Family<\/strong>, which culminated in a victory for The Brothers at <strong><em>Survivor Series 2015<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Undertaker and Demon Kane reemerge to unleash hell upon The Wyatt Family: Raw, November 9, 2015\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WLue0mcHFp8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Final Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Undertaker&#8217;s long-term feuds were now finished.\u00a0 At <em><strong>WrestleMania XXXII<\/strong><\/em>, Taker would defeat a returning <strong>Shane McMahon<\/strong>.\u00a0 The stipulation was simple.\u00a0 If Shane McMahon were to win, he takes control of RAW and Taker is forced to retire from active competition at <em>WrestleMania<\/em>.\u00a0 If Taker wins, Shane is gone from WWE programming.\u00a0 Of course, the stipulation turned out to be pointless &#8211; Shane was made commissioner of <strong>SmackDown Live <\/strong>the following night.\u00a0 At <em><strong>WrestleMania XXXIII<\/strong><\/em>, The Deadman would go against &#8220;The Big Dog&#8221; of WWE.\u00a0 It would be Undertaker versus Reigns.\u00a0 Reigns would defeat Taker at the event &#8211; causing Undertaker just his second loss at <em>WrestleMania<\/em>; the Streak standing at 23-2.\u00a0 In what was perceived as a symbol of retirement, Undertaker left his hat, gloves and coat in the ring.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FULL MATCH - Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker - No Holds Barred Match: WrestleMania 33\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oC4svcyIhg4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Undertaker would be gone for a full year &#8211; with a single appearance at the 25th anniversary of RAW (January 22, 2018) being his only showing between <em>WrestleMania XXXIII<\/em> and <em><strong>WrestleMania XXXIV<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <em>WrestleMania XXXIV<\/em>&#8216;s build-up consisted of <strong>John Cena<\/strong> begging Undertaker to &#8220;do something&#8221;.\u00a0 Though Cena&#8217;s entire WWE career took place during Undertaker&#8217;s, the two rarely crossed paths.\u00a0 This was largely down to Cena being a RAW mainstay and Undertaker being mostly SmackDown exclusive.\u00a0 At <em>WrestleMania XXXIV<\/em>, they would indeed cross paths once more &#8211; with Undertaker defeating Cena in three minutes.\u00a0 If you believed that was The Undertaker&#8217;s final farewell, his winning effort against <strong>Rusev<\/strong> at WWE&#8217;s <em><strong>Greatest Royal Rumble<\/strong><\/em> event might have surprised you.\u00a0 His perceived retirement after the defeat against Roman Reigns was clearly an afterthough.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/AnR0uBnjms0<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Saudi Shows<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This wouldn&#8217;t be the final time Undertaker was involved in a match which contradicted a previous outcome.\u00a0 Later that year, The Undertaker and Triple H faced each other in a &#8220;Last Time Ever&#8221; match at the Super Show-Down event in Australia.\u00a0 Of course, this completely disrespected their &#8220;End of an Era&#8221; match from <em>WrestleMania XXVIII<\/em> and paled in comparison.\u00a0 To make matters worse, The Brothers of Destruction took on <strong>D-Generation X<\/strong> &#8211; a returning Shawn Michaels and Triple H &#8211; at Crown Jewel.\u00a0 This, of course, disrespected the outcome to the <em>WrestleMania XXVI<\/em> match between Michaels and Undertaker.\u00a0 Undertaker then missed<em><strong> WrestleMania XXXV<\/strong> <\/em>&#8211; his first no-show at WrestleMania in 19 years.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>End of the 2010s<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Undertaker made a couple of appearances in 2019, defeating<strong> Goldberg<\/strong> at <em><strong>Super Showdown<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 He would assist Roman Reigns in his feud against Shane McMahon and <strong>Drew McIntyre<\/strong> &#8211; defeating them at the <em><strong>Extreme Rules<\/strong><\/em> pay-per-view.\u00a0 The Deadman&#8217;s 2010s had come to an end.\u00a0 He had just one championship reign in the decade &#8211; a sole World Heavyweight Championship run; which began in 2009 and ended in 2010.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Undertaker comes to Roman Reigns&#039; aid: Raw, June 24, 2019\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TjrJdpH_C_s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This brings us back to the present day.\u00a0 What does the 2020s have in store for The Undertaker?
