But these two have had a rivalry long before either man joined the WWE Universe, going back to their days on the independents when Seth Rollins was <strong>Tyler Black<\/strong> and Kevin Owens went by <strong>Kevin Steen<\/strong>. Just days removed from the WrestleMania affair, <strong>Ring of Honor<\/strong> has announced they&#8217;ll be releasing their epic encounter from <em><strong>ROH Salvation<\/strong><\/em> in 2010 &#8211; and their final non-WWE battle &#8211; for free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC4_uDa6w1kOyzsikIzReCKQ\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on their YouTube channel<\/a> on Thursday night at 9pm EST.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/ringofhonor\/status\/1245743018923003904<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Black and Kevin Steen actually first locked horns even prior to Ring of Honor, first meeting up in <strong>IWA Mid South<\/strong> at\u00a0<em><strong>An Extreme Farewell<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>on May 18, 2006. Black was barely a year into the business, while Steen himself had made his debut in the Canadian indies as a teenager in 2000. Tyler Black would end up defeating the &#8220;veteran&#8221; Steen in their first encounter.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tyler Black vs Kevin Steen IWA mid south 18.5.06\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z_9dDqVp_pQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Their next encounter was over a year later on the West Coast, when both men were on the same team in a 10-man tag team match with <strong>Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG)<\/strong> on the second night of <em><strong>Battle of Los Angeles<\/strong><\/em>. Tyler Black had been eliminated from the tournament by <strong>Alex Shelley<\/strong> on Night One, while Steen was knockout the same night by <strong>Necro Butcher<\/strong>. But when they met again a few months later in ROH, they were decidedly on opposite sides.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-66164\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/04\/steenerico-0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/04\/steenerico-0.jpg 450w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/04\/steenerico-0-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2007, both men made their debut with Ring of Honor, with Tyler Black joining <strong>Jimmy Jacobs<\/strong> in <strong>The Age of the Fall<\/strong>, while Steen entered alongside his best friend and tag partner <strong>El Generico<\/strong> (aka WWE&#8217;s Sami Zayn). At <strong>ROH Rising Above<\/strong> in December in New York City, Black &amp; Jacobs were part of a four-way tag team match that saw Generico &amp; Steen prevail over the Age of the Fall&#8217;s duo, as well as <strong>The Hangman Three<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Adam Pearce &amp; BJ Whitmer<\/strong> and <strong>The Vulture Squad<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Jack Evans &amp; Ruckus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-66163\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/04\/76df5a222a4cfba204cbb3f3256d709e27251244_hq-e1585846689604.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"><\/p>\n<p>In early February, the two would meet in singles action again, but it wasn&#8217;t ROH. On Canadian soil, Steen evened the score by defeating Black in Toronto, Ontario at <strong>UWA Hardcore <em>Panic Attack<\/em><\/strong>. Back in ROH though, their feud was just beginning to take steam. For much of the summer of 2008, The Age of the Fall&#8217;s Black &amp; Jacobs would feud with Steen &amp; Generico over the ROH World Tag Team titles &#8211; AotF beat Steen &amp; Generico for the vacant titles in June at <em><strong>ROH Up for Grabs<\/strong><\/em>, while Steen &amp; Generico beat AotF for the belts at <em><strong>ROH Driven<\/strong><\/em> in September. Soon after, the two teams would drift apart.
