On Thursday night, former Pacific Northwest icon &#8220;The Crippler&#8221; <strong>Rip Oliver<\/strong>, passed away after a short stay in hospice due to chronic heart problems. He was 67 years old.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Pacific Northwest legendary wrestler Rip Oliver went to be with the Lord today at 4 p.m (Eastern Standard Time). May the good Lord comfort his widow and three children, family &amp; close friends. Rip is no longer suffering but we are deeply saddened by this news <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sFfAZJ9A30\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/sFfAZJ9A30<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Cauliflower Alley Club (@CACReunion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CACReunion\/status\/1235686840209788930?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 5, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Originally hailing from Tampa, he started in the Florida territory with <strong>Championship Wrestling From Florida<\/strong> in 1975 and expanded with <strong>Georgia Championship Wrestling<\/strong>, Memphis&#8217; <strong>Continental Wrestling Association (CWA)<\/strong> and <strong>Verne Gagne<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>American Wrestling Association (AWA)<\/strong>. But once he shifted to the Pacific Northwest, he went from a solid journeyman to an absolute star.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Roddy Piper &amp; Billy Jack Hanes vs Ric Flair &amp; Rip Oliver\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BiSj9WpORhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In 1980 he joined <strong>Don Owen<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>NWA Pacific Northwest<\/strong> territory. The Pacific Northwest was a unique territory, combining West Coast, Hawaii, and Western Canadian wrestling into a hybrid that kept the region vibrant for decades. Stars like <strong>Rowdy Roddy Piper, Billy Jack Haynes, Tully Blanchard<\/strong>, and <strong>&#8220;Superfly&#8221; Jimmy Snuka<\/strong> had tremendous success in the PNW before becoming full-fledged superstars.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Curt Hennig v Rip Oliver - PNW Title 1\/3\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HgDmKFd66Iw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With all the talent that went through the PNW, none shone brighter than Rip Oliver. He was a 12x NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Champion and a 16x NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champion, that both remained records until the promotion folded in 1997.
