{"id":62779,"date":"2020-02-12T07:50:48","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T12:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/?p=62779"},"modified":"2020-02-12T07:50:48","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T12:50:48","slug":"leo-onozaki-announces-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2020\/02\/12\/leo-onozaki-announces-retirement\/","title":{"rendered":"Stardom&#8217;s Leo Onozaki Announces Retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To add to the recent string of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprowrestling.com\/2019\/12\/26\/kagetsu-announces-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retirement&#8217;s<\/a> in Stardom, and Joshi in general, it has been announced that Stardom&#8217;s Leo Onozaki will retire following the February 16th Shinkiba show.\u00a0 According to Stardom&#8217;s twitter, Onozaki&#8217;s decision came due to lingering injuries.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Leo Onozaki says that she is retiring due to lingering injuries, and she wanted to go out in a match that she chose, with members of the former unit JAN. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qTHSjXvJDq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/qTHSjXvJDq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; We Are Stardom (@we_are_stardom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/we_are_stardom\/status\/1227566754487881728?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 12, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Onozaki&#8217;s final match is a mini Jungle Assault Nation (JAN) reunion as she teams with former faction member <strong>Saya Iida\u00a0<\/strong>to take on former leader\u00a0<strong>Jungle Kyona\u00a0<\/strong>and frequent tag partner\u00a0<strong>Ruaka<\/strong>.\u00a0 It should provide a nice send-off for Onozaki to wrestle her former allies.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old Onozaki debuted in 2018 in a losing effort to Natsuko Tora and would mostly wrestle fellow rookies\u00a0<strong>Hanan, Nao Yamaguchi, <\/strong>and Ruaka while occasionally teaming with the Stardom Army.\u00a0 Onozaki would become a part of JAN following the first Stardom Draft and would mostly be there to take pins.\u00a0 Once JAN was forced to disband Onozaki would be drafted by Queen&#8217;s Quest to once again fulfill the role of pin eater.<\/p>\n<p>It became clear in recent months that Onozaki was taking a back seat to newer debutants like\u00a0<strong>Itsuki Hoshino\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Saya Kamitani\u00a0<\/strong>as they have a higher potential ceiling than Onozaki.\u00a0 Leo Onozaki was always a good addition to tag team matches and will always be remembered for being a part of the loveable and popular JAN faction who captured the hearts of the fans in their brief run.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last Word on Pro Wrestling<\/a>\u00a0for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
