Many expected him to jump to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) to join his former Elite buddies, while others anticipated a jump to NXT. But according to a new report from Mike Johnson at PWInsider, it looks like not only has Marty Scurll re-signed with the company, but has been given the task of being ROH’s new lead booker following a somewhat lackluster 2019. Scurll currently leads the Villain Enterprises faction in ROH, along with Brody King, Flip Gordon, and ROH World Champion PCO.

Photo: ROH

Since 2010, ROH has been lead creatively by Hunter Johnston, better known as the masked wrestler Delirious, following the firing of their previous head of creative Adam Pearce (who has since become one of the top producers for WWE). ROH continued to have great success, thanks in part to their alliance with Japan’s NJPW and Mexico’s CMLL, but since the departure of The Elite – Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and “Hangman” Adam Page at years end in 2018, ROH has struggled to get back in form. Despite co-selling out Madison Square Garden last WrestleMania week, since then New Japan has kept ROH at somewhat of a distance, as the looked to build their own brand in the US.

Marty Scurll’s new deal is reportedly one of the biggest offered since Sinclair Broadcasting purchased the company in 2011, and now he’s got the added benefit of not only controlling the destiny of ROH but himself as well. While Scurll is taking over the lead booker position, Delirious will remain as a consultant with the creative committee. One aspect of his new deal is that he can also appear for the rebooted National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), where he is currently setting up a feud with longtime friend/rival Nick Aldis to challenge for the NWA World’s Heavyweight title.
